I dont have the words to express how much the Halcyon changed me and my life. So, I will borrow from the song Away, “I found you lost in this atmosphere. You gave me hope you gave me something real.” #Foreverasone #HalcyonForever
Two years ago today, @autumn-d.bsky.social, @squirrelydoc.bsky.social, @bcbishop.bsky.social, and @othermaciej.bsky.social and I boarded Lady H for her final voyage. We are all still close, and see each other regularly. IT was a life-changing gift. #GalacticStarcruiser, #HalcyonForever #NotAHotel

Here's one of my favorite moments from the final voyage of the Halcyon. This place was filled with delight and surprise, and these moments were occurring everywhere throughout the ship. #HalcyonForever #StarcruiserSunday

Gaya, Sandra, Ouannii, SK-620. Only a few of us got to know them. Her music will live on, but many of their stories live only in our memories.

Buy the music you love.
In April 2024, Spotify implemented a new scheme: songs with less than 1k streams per year would no longer receive royalties.

The data for 2025 was just released via Luminate, and 88% of songs have been demonetized.

Read it again: 88% of songs on Spotify have been demonetized.

The Nobel prize, the Pulitzer Prize, and the Carnegie prize are all reputation management devices, where the prize gilds the name of the wealthy man who finds himself in disfavor but awash in swimming pools of gold coin. In 2055 watch for the Musky-Bezo & the Trump prizes to cleanse their names.

At an event last night, an older woman gave me a mix CD she’s been making every year for friends. I find it delightful that someone is still making mix CDs to give to people at dinner parties, and that I am still invited to cute parties.

I mean, if I were going to teach a class today, I would encourage people to shoot a film in a Le Jetée style- photos and audio only. Keep it simple and focus on the story. Giving young kids a black magic for their first device is just doom imo.
January 15, 2026 at 1:36 AM
I feel like kids should use simple devices they already know how to use and free Mobile editing software they already have rather than burdening them with equipment and software that is absolutely overkill.
January 15, 2026 at 1:36 AM
I was talking to some educators today about how best to train young filmmakers. They had a grant and decided to buy high-level equipment for filmmaking but nothing for data transfer or editing. I was vehemently opposed.

Even just a name can put in motion efforts that get someone released. If they're a citizen, we can get them jail support. If they're an immigrant, there are groups working overtime to file habeas petitions before they're whisked out of state. But it starts with a name.
If you see one, the most important thing to say is “WHAT’S YOUR NAME” because otherwise the person is gone for good, maybe. I witnessed one in an alley as the sole pursuit car, I was the only witness, I froze for a second and didn’t shout it in time, and the guy is just… gone now. I’ll never know.

Looking for a doc filmmaker to teach middle-schoolers in point reyes - Wednesdays 1:30-3pm, for 17 weeks until May 27th. The original teacher had an emergency and had to quit, leaving these kids without their class. Would love to help them out!
Do I know any West Marin filmmakers available for a short teaching gig this month for some middle schoolers?

I feel like most people have seen the original trilogy, and didn't care about the recent films. Vi's storyline was abandoned, and no one cares about her in the parks. I find that sad, but this change will reinvigorate Galaxy's Edge.
