I mean, if I were going to teach a class today, I would encourage people to shoot a film in a Le Jetée style- photos and audio only. Keep it simple and focus on the story. Giving young kids a black magic for their first device is just doom imo.

I feel like kids should use simple devices they already know how to use and free Mobile editing software they already have rather than burdening them with equipment and software that is absolutely overkill.

I'm seeing that with my interns - lots of people with flip phones, iPhone set to b&w mode, and lots of time with the iPhone silenced/off. And of course, there are people who think IG/TikTok is a requirement for careers. Lots of spectrum in use.
