We've seen this across UC.

Layoffs and hiring freezes instituted in preparation for proposed cuts. But then when the cuts were not as severe of the funding was reinstated, the cuts stayed ostensibly to be prepared for the worst.

Austerity is a solution for all your problems.
This funding cuts tracker is useful for highlighting something underreported:

the return of funding, like at Harvard, has not necessarily translated into a reversal of job and admissions cuts.

The why of that is complicated, but instability is a huge piece of it.

So @nationalacademies.org changed their catalog platform to access NAP reports and publications (including @trb.org pubs), which has caused some funky stuff with the URLs and kind of breaking DOIs.

If the train schedule worked for later starts, I think I’d be going to more games.

K-12 schools are closed this week, so there are lots of kids on campus. Just saw a grown up and a kid riding skateboards, and it was cool watching the kid practice pushing up an incline. The adult was pushing mongo and it was tripping me out.

Not shocked that a lot of folks who use LaTeX are complaining about accessibility laws.
