Social trust, the glue that holds the people together, plummets when people believe society is deeply divided. And that lack of trust feeds the political machine.

This one beat me hard.

I keep thinking about what it is that sums up Trump. The other day, while listening to my novel, the author (Cory Doctorow, "Red Team Blues") was describing a character. He wrote, "He doesn't know other people exist." I thought, that's it exactly.

Some call for austerity measures for the fiscal challenges before us.

Take a data-driven look with senior economist @iglikaivanova.bsky.social‬ at BC’s fiscal health to challenge these austerity narratives with more sustainable policy solutions.

Born in 1975, I represent the one generation of women who had rights.

I’m fighting for my daughters and granddaughters.

Fuck this shit.

By now, we've all seen the video of Senator Alex Padilla (D-CA) being forcibly removed and handcuffed for asking a question during Kristi Noem's press conference.

But what Noem said just moments before the video was taken is "classic authoritarian red-baiting," points out @davidcorn.bsky.social.

Waiting for the big outlets to put two and two together and realize that police whose identities are secret and facilities are secret are secret police.

The point is that the King (or Queen) is the Commander-in-Chief of the Canadian Military. That's the reason for the uniform a while back, and the throne speech. I understood this immediately. When fascism takes over, they are the last line of defence.

Carney calls on King Charles to deliver the Throne Speech–brilliant strategic move or colonial regression?

What might Team Canada look like? Give the NDP & Greens party status. Let Poilievre into the House as leader. Work together where you can. Electoral reform before the next election. There is a shiny report sitting there with excellent recommendations. FPTP divides us. It's time to end it.

Alberta is going to repeal a Notley NDP law and once again allow corporate and union donations. It will also increase donations and overall spending for candidates, parties, leaders, and third-party advertisers. It all just smacks of conflict of interest and interference in elections.

I certainly do, which is why I am fighting hard for incumbent NDP candidates.

Poilievre and the CPC continue to assert that there is no such thing as gender diversity. At all. They want to repeal “Commissioner’s Directive 100, which allows male offenders to be housed in women’s prisons” (CPC Platform for Change, page 12).

There is almost as much sanctimonious sneer in most Canadian political podcast journalism as there is in Pierre Poilievre. Can't wait to not listen to either of them. Although, I may have to shut off my radio if he wins.

2/Losing this massive infrastructure will have a devastating economic impact and set back thousands of people's skills and career development. If big corps can get subsidies and tax breaks for jobs, why not these folks? So short-sighted from the folks who say they are good at economics.

1/Lost in the Conservative vitriol over CBC are the thousands of artists, musicians, novelists, poets, and other creatives and journalists uplifted by the public broadcaster. If understanding the power of the arts is not enough, these are jobs. This is economic activity.

Tommy Douglas is as relevant today as ever. Perhaps more so. Tommy Douglas, among other achievements, brought in Universal Health Care in Sask. Now, we watch its slow dismantling because the cats never wanted it in the first place. They fought it then and are slowly privatising it now.
