1/ ProPublica collected handwritten letters in mid-January from children held at the Dilley Immigration Processing Center, the same facility where 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos was taken.

Hundreds of kids are still detained.

We’ll let the children’s words speak for themselves. 🧵

This is a fantastic essay on parasocial relationships, creativity, social media, and ethics, all rolled into one. For those people seeing certain unwelcome names in the news again.
Re: the discussions up and down my timeline today, let me resurface this essay I wrote up about 18 months ago, about the perils of idolizing creative people, up to and including me. Some of you may remember it, but many of you weren't following me then, so.

Abolish ICE.

There’s no reforming it.

There’s no compromise.

There’s only one way to rein in ICE’s terror campaign. Abolish it.

Everyone should be putting up NO ICE NO CPB NO FEDERAL AGENTS GET A JUDICIAL WARRANT OR STAY OUT signs everywhere.
My wife told me she heard at a training she attended that ICE has argued "ALL ARE WELCOME HERE" signs are invitations to enter private spaces and if that don't beat all I don't know what does.

Hey y'all! While the fight in Minnesota is FAR from over, I have been keeping an eye on Maine as well. I connected with the awesome folks over at No ICE for ME and got some links to share!

The biggest one is the Maine Solidarity Fund. They are doing EVERYTHING right now. We just sent them $1000.

Can confirm, @casablancacomics.bsky.social is a lovely place to visit! Especially recommend their used graphic novel section, but that might just be my little niche.
Whatever happened to Matt Murdock?

This place is important. Sacred perhaps. A place where they keep the stories. The ones that comfort you when you’re small and scared, and that can help you find pieces of who you are capable of being.

Speaking as someone who cannot tell them apart, there was INTENSE debate over which Minions had hair and which did not.

As a result of introducing a class of fourth graders to Michelangelo, there now exists a cartoon for a proposed fresco of the Minions.
a minion is holding a banana in front of a keyboard
Alt: A minion (from Despicable Me) is standing behind a conveyor belt, worshipfully staring at a banana. Text reads "Banana."

I have a perverse fondness for his take on Steerpike in Gormenghast, and he's correctly unhinged in Titus. But in general I see the point.

Abolish/defund ICE to fund health care might be a good electoral and policy position. But that is currently the stance of only a few elected Dems. The mainstream stance is saying ICE under Trump is bad and offering vague reform ideas while allowing bills to pass that keep ICE operating as is.
AOC is one of the few Dem electeds that has been explaining that cost-of-living issues are a result of kleptocracy.

Even David Shor has found her message of "Trump is stealing your healthcare money to fund ICE so Democrats must abolish ICE to claw back ACA money" is the most popular among voters
Perhaps this latest shooting changes things. But the Dem establishment is fixated on this separation of economic vs not purely economic. If Trump somehow could unilaterally raise gas, grocery or health insurance prices, they would mobilize. But otherwise, they want to redirect to those issues.

If any Democrat in the Senate votes to fund ICE, they are voting for the summary execution of American citizens. It’s really that simple.
Reminder: DHS legislation that funds ICE at current levels without policy restrictions is in the Senate and needs 60 votes to pass. Deadline is next Friday.
