It’s confusing to patients, and even healthcare workers, when trying to distinguish between “dementia” and “Alzheimer’s.” So here’s a schematic with different types of dementia (most common).

“Dementia” is an umbrella word. There are many different pathologies & presentations.

My dad gave me his Autism but not his math skills so now I am just a human-shaped grab bag of random facts and most of them are deeply unsettling.

Your differences aren’t deficits and your style is your art. Art is neither right nor wrong, it simply exists and is beautiful when you decide it is.

The clinic is always freezing cold and I found out the building managers turn off the central heater over the weekends to save money. Love that for us…

I had a patient who lost hand function and fine motor skills. From leaning on their elbows too much!! There was nothing we could do, the damage was done.

Stop this habit now and don’t let it tingle!

Do you get tingly elbows after leaning on them?

That’s your ulnar nerve telling you to stop! Unless you want chronic nerve damage down the road, but most people regret having this bad habit.

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”

This is also true for Quality of Life. It’s an individual definition that you make for yourself. You do not get to define it for other people, nor should yours be defined by other people.

What brings You joy & comfort? What enhances the quality of Your life?

This week, a #nurse fulfilled a dying patient's wish to have McDonald's fish sandwich combo. Many if you will probably be surprised, but I too think of this as comfort food and am so glad that the nurse did that for this patient. @3wishesprogram.bsky.social

Healthcare workers keep getting this twisted:

GOC conversations and DNR conversations are two different things.

Palliative Care is NOT a DNR specialty, and we don’t facilitate GOC meetings to “change” anyone’s code status.

Hi, ASL interpreter of 30 yrs & a person w/ Deaf family here.

In response to the anti-ASL horseshit going around:

ASL and English are not the same language.

ASL has no written form.

Reading English subs is not = to seeing ASL & many Deaf ppl need sign to fully understand info.
