We are now further away from the theatrical release of Raiders of the Lost Ark (June 12, 1981) than it was from the year it takes place in (1936). We have reached the Indiana Jones event horizon.

The turkey is in the oven. Repeat, the turkey is in the oven. Temperature probes in. A day of eating has commenced.

I've been referring to Glenn's turkey advice for several years and can confirm if you just read this thread you're going to get the best tasting turkey you've ever had.
Night before Thanksgiving.

Turkey should be in the refrigerator, unwrapped, rinsed well, patted as dry as you can, and if you're dry brining, rubbed all over inside the cavity and UNDER THE SKIN with coarse kosher salt.

You're gonna put that on a rack over a roasting pan into the fridge UNCOVERED.

Honestly thought this was a really solid film from Pixar. It's certainly not among their pantheon of greats, but for a family animated film it was a really, really solid effort.

Many folks' final assessment of Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser---the closest thing to a multi-million-dollar larp experience we've ever gotten and one of Disney's highest-ever-rated attractions---came from a 4-hour complaint video about its game app, instantly accepted as sacred dogma.
Whenever I say this, people get Really Mad, but it's true. Same of any other art, too. You have to read the book, watch the film, see the painting, listen to the song, whatever.

I'm sorry, but watching a video about it on YouTube is not enough. You have not experience the art.
"you have not played the game unless you've played the game" is one of my more annoying but unshakable opinions

The ONLY reason I upgraded my phone last year was because the one I was using had a four year old battery and I had no idea if the Trump Tariffs was going to make it impossible for me to replace it. Without that uncertainty I would have kept using it!
there has been no meaningful improvement in the devices or their functionality in 10 years in any way that affects what any normal person uses them to do, people only switch when forced updates cause a device which worked fine yesterday to lag so bad you can't type at full speed until you replace it

I've legitimately had to stop going to Google for recipes and have gone back to physical cookbooks. I can't trust anything I search online anymore.
NEW: AI “recipe slop” is overrunning search and social. Food creators say Google’s AI Overviews and glossy fake food pics are drowning out real, tested recipes — collapsing traffic and setting home cooks up for disaster, especially this Thanksgiving.

Got some news last night that is a huge, gigantic relief and escape valve for a lot of anxiety over the last few years. This week is going to be a big scramble as a result, but the relief is real.

This. I've been working with "machine learning" since before the current AI-fever and it's an invaluable tool in science and engineering.

LLMs and GenAI are being misused in a criminally negligent way and using misplaced legitimacy to do it, and that misdirect cannot be allowed to continue.
Journalist challenge: Use “Machine Learning” when you mean machine learning and “LLM” when you mean LLM. Ditch “AI” as a catch-all term, it’s not useful for readers and it helps companies trying to confuse the public by obscuring the roles played by different technologies. 🧪
