Unit 2 adapts that Living with Machines paper that uses fill-masks and composite word embeddings to explore the idea of animacy to, instead, explore the idea of monstrosity in Frankenstein. Pretty pleased with this one, ngl!

Unit 1 looks at a topic model of a corpus of climate fiction, following the example of @richardjeanso.bsky.social. We read some Jemisin, some Atwood, and some KSR, and then ask: how do the themes of the model connect to the themes expressed by individual authors.

Cuts to and closures of university presses are 100% part of the separation (or as @mattseybold.bsky.social has called it "unbundling") of research and teaching in the humanities and the devaluation of both quite frankly--in this case at the expense of the career training admin claims to care about.
