On this date in 1973 the Great SS Luis Aparicio stole his 500th base, which was the highest total in the AL since Eddie Collins retired in 1930. Aparicio played for the Red Sox from 1971-73, he was a 2x AS for the Sox. In his career he was a 10x AS, and 9x GG’er, he was elected to the HOF in 1984.

Rico Petrocelli’s 1971 Topps Baseball Card. That season he shifted from Shortstop to 3rd Base after the Red Sox acquired Luis Aparicio. For the season in 158 Games he hit .251 with 28 HR’s, a .815 OPS and a 4.9 WAR.
