From Saddam Hussein’s draining of southern Iraq’s marshes to Russia’s attacks on a Ukrainian dam and nuclear power plant, calls are increasing to recognize mass environmental harms as international crimes.

@leilasadat1.bsky.social outlines a role for the proposed #CrimesAgainstHumanity treaty:
Case for Environmental Harm as a 12th Crime Against Humanity
Addressing the global environmental crisis requires urgent action. This treaty offers an opportunity to confront it directly and decisively.

The ruling from the International Court of Justice last week is genuinely a big fucking deal. It makes it a legal obligation for countries to address climate change. Yes, even the ones not signed on to Paris. Yes, even the U.S. More from me & @rishpardikar.bsky.social drilled.media/news/ijc-1
Landmark Ruling Gives Paris Climate Agreement Teeth
A rare unanimous ruling from the International Court of Justice creates a pathway to hold all governments, even the climate-denying ones, legally liable for climate risk.

This woman does the best she can and I'm glad she stepped up and got in officers faces.

A few quick notes about "warrants" and due process when law enforcement arrest people, and how this squares with the current TRO that ostensibly blocks profiling by race, language, occupation, and location

All four of my grandparents were immigrants, and two barely spoke English. Well, my Irish nana also spoke what we think was English
Mexicans named this city Los Angeles, and 60 percent of us here now are foreign born or the children of immigrants. It's a shame you guys don't understand America is built by and for immigrants, and that carrying more than one flag is by definition, to the core, VERY American

Bill Kristol (!) putting the blame where the blame lies. Miller and Trump took the fight to LA, and to the country. Not the other way round.
You know when things were pretty quiet and peaceful in L.A.? Before ICE started arresting residents who were bothering no one and going to their jobs. And before DHS and National Guard troops showed up and made the situation worse.

Of course Trump and Stephen Miller want the situation to get worse.

Newsom Formally Asks Trump to Pull National Guard Out of L.A.
Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office, in a letter to the Trump administration, called the deployment of troops “unlawful” and a “serious breach of state sovereignty.”

Deploying the National Guard—over the objections of state leaders and local law enforcement—is a dangerous escalation.

This isn’t about enforcing law and order, it’s about seizing power and control. Americans won’t tolerate this slide into authoritarianism.

There is no climate justice without justice for oppressed people.
I wish the climate scientists vocal on climate mitigation all had the level of moral clarity that Greta Thunberg has.

There's no way you can look at Ukraine hitting a lawful military target, used for bombing Ukrainian cities, and think that justifies retribution against those same cities, without believing almost wholly in the Russian framing of the war.
President Trump: "They [Ukrainians] gave the reason to go and bomb the hell out of them last night."

Trump argued that Ukraine's recent Spiderweb drone operation against Russian airfields gave Russia justification for its retaliatory strike on civilians. ⤵️
