Published today in the UK!
(a couple of months later here in the US)
. . .
Notable perhaps - given the date today, and the headlines - that it includes a chapter discussing how we are all being ghosted by our so-called elected representatives and civic leaders.

AMERICA'S MOST GOTHIC: HAUNTED HISTORY STRANGER THAN FICTION launches 9/30 via @kensingtonbooks.bsky.social!
9/30 night, @andreajanes.bsky.social & yours truly talk with the amazing @leilataylor.bsky.social at @astoriabookshop.bsky.social!
See you there, NYC!
Let's sign spooky books together! 🖤
From the authors of A HAUNTED HISTORY OF INVISIBLE WOMEN comes AMERICA'S MOST GOTHIC: HAUNTED HISTORY STRANGER THAN FICTION by Leanna Renee Hieber and Andrea Janes. The book cover features a teal background with a central haunted house (typical Gothic, mansard roof, eerily lit interior, surrounded by encroaching mist and overgrowing forest.) The text is in white script and the subtitle in a rich goldenrod yellow that mirrors the filigree detailing and quatrefoil corner pieces of gothic detailing around the edges.

Christ, I just went down this rabbit hole and there is a LOT
Old cartoons of black people being used as alligator bait

"Seems like a good time to mention that white supremacists have had a long standing fixation with alligators eating Black and Brown people. This isn't new and it's not about 'illegal immigration.'"

There’s a reason I say I was technically born in Ohio but I’m not “from” there.
shaneblackheart.com
A very scary bill just passed in Ohio for transgender folks. No one but local LGBTQ+ orgs are talking about it.

First, Ohio is only recognizing sex assigned at birth, male or female. You can get in trouble for stating otherwise on documents, I imagine. I may need to change my state ID back. 1/5
Sec. 9.05. (A) As used in the Revised Code:
(1) "Boy" means a juvenile human male.
Am. Sub. H. B. No. 96 136th G.A.
15
(2) "Female" means a person belonging, at conception, to the sex that produces the large
reproductive cell.
(3) "Gender identity" means an individual's internal and subjective sense of self,
disconnected from biological reality and sex and existing on an infinite continuum, that does not
provide a meaningful basis for identification and cannot be recognized as a replacement for sex.
(4) "Girl" means a juvenile human female.
(5) "Male" means an individual belonging, at conception, to the sex that produces the small
reproductive cell.
(6) "Man" means an adult human male.
(7) "Sex" means the biological indication of male and female, including sex chromosomes,
naturally occurring sex hormones, gonads, and nonambiguous internal and external genitalia present
at birth, without regard to an individual's psychological, chosen, or subjective experience of gender.
(8) "Woman" means an adult human female.
(B) It is the policy of the state of Ohio to recognize two sexes, male and female. These sexes
are not changeable and are grounded in fundamental and incontrovertible reality.

In the words of Nelson Mandela: it always seems impossible until it’s done.

My friends, it is done. And you are the ones who did it.

I am honored to be your Democratic nominee for the Mayor of New York City.

Andry José Hernández Romero, I remember you, even if I do not know how to articulate my horror, rage, & sorrow at your treatment by my government.

No one has heard from you in 100 days.

As vigil, I’m posting a photo (or video) of you every day until you are returned from El Salvador.
