11/2024 update: working on it but I'm still not sure I'm really here yet because I can only take so much social media checking and I'm lazy. Still easier to find me on Mastodon at the moment: @[email protected]

The majority of the waste pulled from the Anacostia is plastic, per the article, and we know all about how challenging it is to recycle glass (if you don't do it single stream/dedicated, it's just landfill cover), so would that be a better place to start?

While Atlas went there in the one quote, Right Proper has a bit more of a nuanced take - the requirement to separately label cans sold in DC vs. cans sold in MD/VA that would be a logistical nightmare and added expense.

I wonder how much the overall goal would be hurt if cans were exempted entirely

And hopefully your agency's budget people left some money in last year's funding to cover that FEHB "shift" (since it impacts the employer's share too).

Really stoked, though not sure what it says that "Registering for Household Hazardous Waste drop-off" passes for excitement these days.

Isn't this a big part of the AI bubble in a nutshell?

I assume the implications are why the flyer touts her role as a committee chair...

I think I saw someone say Tom Sherwood tied it to a possible delegate run. Which would be an interesting move.

Hard to believe that this bridge is less than 11 years old.
Photo of the not yet finished pedestrian bridge connecting the Rhode Island Ave Metro to the MBT and points west. The structure is in place but the deck is not finished nor any railings.

What *would* be nice is a better connection between US-1 and the Potomac Yard Trail - the zig-zag ramp from 4MR can be challenging, and the newer ramp from 4MR to the east side of US-1 doesn't directly connect right there.

And this is why I keep a boot/glove dryer in my office...

Yeah - I'm at a bit of a loss as to the problem it would solve, given how messy the connection north to Eads is and how uninviting it can be. Not to mention any logistical complications around the water treatment plant's infrastructure (plus the power lines).

Why am I getting Brooke Pinto promo mail?!?

For all of the terrible shady things that they do as a company, I have to give a teeny bit of credit to Google/YouTubeTV for including the link to Monumental's own streaming service in their "hey, we couldn't reach a deal to keep their network in our lineup" email.

The oil change/maintenance effort on my Pinion is FAR better than the same maintenance on my previous Shimano Alfine hub.

Shifting is overall smooth like any other IGH except for a little hitch when shifting between gear groups. I have the 18 speed so shifting from 6-7 or 12-13 is a bit more deliberate. Still, love the even gear spacing and wide range.

I had a Priority ebike but also have a bike with a Pinion gearbox.

Priority makes good bikes and stood behind them when I needed work done at a LBS.

I love the Pinion gearbox. Easy oil change once a year. The cable install is similar to a Enviolo or Rohloff hub so the LBS was OK with that.

Yes, this will be an improvement over current conditions where people share a really narrow sidewalk by giving them a somewhat narrow sidewalk. But they could do so much better, cheaper, for more people. Alas.

Agree. There's no good reason besides car brain why DDOT didn't take a lane of Michigan five years ago when they installed the lanes on Irving. Or when they installed the cycletrack on Monroe. Or when they let Catholic close a lane for construction. Would make it safer for drivers too.

The "media" has to take a huge share of the blame here, though. If you're hearing on the "news" about how dangerous it is, but aren't experiencing it yourself, it *must* be happening elsewhere, no?
