11/2024 update: working on it but I'm still not sure I'm really here yet because I can only take so much social media checking and I'm lazy. Still easier to find me on Mastodon at the moment: @[email protected]
Next - while it's definitely an improvement, we might need to get @mountvernontrail.org to give DDOT some pointers on how to do this work with a bit less disruption *and* end up with a patch that isn't a speed bump unto itself...
In the face of.... everything... I feel hopeful and energized because I live in a city that cares enough about my safety to send excavator + truck + crew to fix this trail within 14d

The folks @ddotdc.bsky.social get a lot of shit but they care so much and it shows #bikedc

Once the bigger ones are, installed (scheduled for March), can't wait to see the first photo of a @bunchbike.com in the oversized locker (which WMATA explicitly notes in their press release as being a bike that can fit...)
🚲 Check out new bike lockers at Foggy Bottom & Eastern Market stations! Soon, 450 lockers, 50 oversized ones, and 100 self-locking racks will be available at 73 stations. Add in 75 repair stations and 600 new U-racks, and it’s a major upgrade.

Really hard to get out of my head the juxtaposition of being on an eCaBi with a speed-limited Lime bike to my right and getting passed by a Cybertruck going 70+ (per the digital sign) on my left on Southern Ave near the Metro station the other morning.

Was good seeing so many people come out for this year's Ride For Your Life/ @safestreetsdc.bsky.social walk on the World Day of Remembrance. Very different event, but like yesterday's @ward5familybiking.bsky.social ride, a wonderful sense of community. And huge thanks to @waba.org, as always!

DPW really working hard to make sure that only people who plan to show up stay registered for the 11/29 Special Waste Collection event.

Also nice for them to state in the e-mail that people who walk/bike do not need to be in the waiting line.

Apparently, there's a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new MBT #bikeDC segment this morning at 11AM (at Blair and Whittier NW). Getting the e-mail at 9AM is...not a lot of notice.

Local DC politics continuing to mirror the national Democrats’ lack of understanding of the levers of power and leverage. Sigh.
My statement on the tentative Senate deal to end the government shutdown.

Why We're Ditching Cars for Cargo Bikes (And Why You Should Too)
Cargo bikes are cheaper, faster for short trips, and more fun than the family SUV. Here's why you should make the change.

Happy Sunday! Here's to another day of being completely confused how the 'Democrat party' is falling prey to the 'Marxist threat' yet our President is having the government acquire direct stakes in companies and has opened up a prescription drug storefront as part of their latest shakedown deal.

Still some finishing touches before it's completely done/open, but the MBT #biikeDC extension up to Takoma alongside Blair was quite lovely to ride this afternoon.

Oh, WaPo Editorial Board...you want to know "How did a socialist with almost no governing experience become New York’s mayoral frontrunner?" Whatever the answer, it's better than how a racist misogynist fraudster with no governing experience and a terrible business record become President.

As the years living in the DC area go by, I get more and more amazed at *not* having to check the local news to figure out when trick or treating is happening here. www.jsonline.com/story/life/2...

We've crossed DTC on Florida. We've crossed on 1st/Eckington. You know what that leaves...
Always a joy to bike with @ward5familybiking.bsky.social ! #BikeDC was in full swing today. Watching children cross Dave Thomas circle (with the help of @dcpolicedept.bsky.social escort) was a Ward 5 achievement unlocked!

Paging @bobco85.bsky.social (who probably already has footage were I to bet...)
Seattle bike riders! Looking for confirmation of some work being started/done in University District on eastbound Northeast Campus Parkway bike lane barriers.

If you see work start/end, would appreciate confirmation and a pic!

I'll be the first to admit that this morning's errand (taking the old beverage fridge to Fort Totten for bulk trash disposal) would've been *easier* with a car, but it by no means *required* a car. #bikeDC

One thing that really bugs me with Medstar Georgetown is that every appointment confirmation is met with "thanks! Make sure you park your car here" without any inkling or notion that there are other ways to arrive. Even the website has the public transit/shuttle options in much smaller font.

Really stoked, though not sure what it says that "Registering for Household Hazardous Waste drop-off" passes for excitement these days.
