I just started it this morning and the vibes are immaculate so far
CR:

Reading: WE CALL THEM WITCHES (Netgalley ARC). Post apocalyptic horror pitched as a sapphic melding of Stephen King + T. Kingfisher

Listening: THE LAMB
I guess this October’s horror theme is cannibalism (but make it lesbian)

Academia has lost the art of reading. If we're not writing or in meetings or teaching or uploading shit on moodle we're considered not productive or not doing our job. Reading is work!!
I had to look this up since I was too little to remember it and…I’m sorry, I’m crying I’m laughing so hard
I am, however, probably gonna reread Priory now lol god i love that book
I wish this really had been a big fat tome instead of barely novel length. Felt less like a stand-alone and more like expanded backstory for a couple of the minor characters in The Priory of the Orange Tree.

I loved it bc I love Priory but not sure I’d recommend it on its own

That was circa 2019 I think? Anyway kick out the nazis, always
My only contribution to the Nazi tattoo discourse is for a little bit I worked the front desk at my friend & her husband’s tattoo shop and once a guy came in wanting to get a 1488 tattoo and i went β€œoh shit” while doing the paperwork and told the artist it was a Nazi tat and he kicked the guy out
I don’t read YA often anymore because. Well. I’m 31, they are not written for me and look high school is not a time in my life I’m dying to relive, but I’m glad I took a chance on this one!
Y’all The Falling in Love Montage is so cute and so real. I may have been charmed partly by the audiobook narrator’s Irish accent but it’s such a good, emotional little romance that doesn’t make the teens too adult but doesn’t talk down to/about them either
5/5!

CR: Libby roulette has determined a bit of light reading for the weekend

Reading: ALCHEMY AND A CUP OF TEA
Finally get the cliffhanger from the last book resolved!!! Anyway I love these dorky lesbians

Listening: FALLING IN LOVE MONTAGE. Loving this little Irish YA sapphic romance so far!

I realize in the grand scheme of things a building doesn’t matter nearly as much as all the lives being destroyed by this administration. But I am still really upset by this. That’s the *White House*!!!
NEW: After The Washington Post reported Monday on the demolition of the "East Wing facade," a new picture obtained by Law Dork that was taken on Tuesday shows that a substantial portion of the entirety of the East Wing has been demolished.
I’m about to go put a hold on everything she’s written once I finish this! It’s so well-written and SO funny while also dealing with some heavy themes in a way that doesn’t make light of them. Hard balance to pull off!

Finished Alchemy. The third book didn’t quite hit for me but the fourth was just as charming as the first two, I’m happy to report!

If you like your cozy fantasies with a side of kidnapping, dragons, lesbians, and horrible puns, highly recommend the Tomes and Tea series.

Come scream with me in the cow pasture during golden hour while the cryptids watch from the forest.

This is the progression of every T. Kingfisher horror novel I’ve read:

1. Delightful spooky vibes

2. Oh no what the fuck

3. OH NO WHAT THE FUCK

4. THANKS I HATE IT

5. *incoherent internal screaming*

6. Are we safe now?

7. HOLY SHIT WHAT THE FUCK

This is a brave stance for me to take while living in rural texas, but I stand by it. Also people who drive large trucks are the worst drivers by far.
If you buy a large pickup truck and you don’t have an actual need for it, you are an entitled and probably shitty person who doesn’t care about the environment. Especially if you have a long commute.
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

I simply don't believe "the economy" is real if you can say "everyone's putting their groceries on Klarna but Larry Ellison bought two new yachts, so things are great overall"
NYT made an astounding discovery: the rich have money, the poor don't.
You know when you have a fever and your skin just kind of hurts. Like just touching it. I hate that.

Also being sick when you live alone sucks. At least the cats are mostly being sweet and cuddly (as long as it isn’t mealtime πŸ˜’)

I spoke to the Houston chronicle on the conditions that I only be referred to as frog
Was going to go protest but I’ve managed to come down with a cold/flu thing and nearly passed out when I got up this morning. Go forth comrades!! Have fun and be smart.
