I recently learned (or re-learned?) that the dot over the "i" and "j" is called a tittle and, ever since, my days have become 100 percent more whimsical.

One of the most infuriating things I notice among influencers is the persistent myth they promote that “we all create the life we want and so we all have the life we deserve”.

No. That’s absolutely not true and is an incredibly ignorant and privileged statement to make.

Quote from Rabbi Eli's cousin:

"Eli was murdered on Bondi Beach because of irrational hate, and our response has to be irrational love — irrational goodness.

Eli would be saying, 'Go and do another good deed. Go and help another person. Go and care for another"

It’s the first night of Hanukkah and the world seems like a very dark place. But we can bring light to the darkness. We can fight for each other and make goodness, love, and community shine through.

Show me your menorahs and let’s light up the timeline!

Spoke to my mother this morning about the attack at Bondi.

She summarised the Jewish spirit well:

‘We survive. Go eat.’

If you're not Jewish and you're having trouble contextualizing the Sydney attack, imagine a shooting at a public Christmas tree lighting in NYC. Little kids running around. Lovely Hanukkah lights. Maybe some singing. That's what these gunmen shattered. That's what we have to carry into Hanukkah.

So much of the discussion is only seeking to further divide people.
I am concentrating on the tales of those working together to help. The queues out the door of the blood bank in Sydney. The lifeguard running from Tamarama to Bondi with equipment. So many stories.

Getting a blood donation slot may be challenging but will be an ongoing need in the coming days and weeks

Anywhere in Australia you can donate and it will help as stocks are moved around the country to replenish what has been used

Christmas time is always hard for the blood bank

Masks are incredibly effective when they’re actually worn.

They’re not effective when they’re in your hand, in your pocket, under your chin or under your nose.

If you upgrade to a respirator like an N95? Even better!

Mask up to avoid Covid, flu and stay healthy this holiday season.
Ok this is important. A big myths
out there is that studies show masks don’t work. When you look at what the studies measured, what they actually show is masks don’t work *if you don’t wear them.* They didn’t measure the tool, they measured the wearers behavior. www.independent.co.uk/news/health/...
Does wearing a face mask stop you catching flu? Experts give verdict
Wearing a mask is inconvenient, but not as inconvenient as lockdowns

There's a queue of people down two flights of stairs to the front door of the building for the Parramatta blood donation centre. They are booking people in for later appointments one by one, so still worth doing.

In a year when humanity has done everything it can to show its worst side at every level and in every place, I will remember Ahmed al Ahmed - brave hero of the Sydney tragedy, who fortunately came out alive - as a beacon of hope.

I will remember the courage and kindness.

Anyone feel like their institutions have never recognized this?
Between starting as new faculty in 2018, then pandemic/online learning, then transition back to 'new normal', then AI proliferation, it's been 8 years of non-stop new prep/reimagining full course loads every semester, and just continually chasing moving targets. I love teaching, I'm just so tired.

Has anyone noticed clothing companies are going back to SUPER thin models? Quince ads are bothering me. We are not doing this again. Not just for representation. Most people shop online now, and I’m not buying jeans for my size 10 body having only seen them on a 00.

Gov said social media ban would only affect 16 yr olds. But most Aussies are being asked to perform age verification and some platforms have also restricted the comms of 16-18 year olds. The social media ban has a chilling censorious affect beyond the ban and imposes a blanket of mass surveillance

Same society that sends hundreds of children aged 10 to 13 *to prison each year* (approximately 600 last time I looked) and forced thousands more through the criminal justice system?
“Freeing them to grow up in a society that protects them.”

Wow that society sounds great, where is it?

Funny thread 🤣
Conversation in my house this morning:
Me: Kris is coming to fix the bathroom.
Child: Who's Kris.
Me: He's a man who fixes things.
Child: Is he the one who pulled all the bras out of the wall?
Me: No.

Let me make this conversation make sense for you...
