#Kidlit community: If you're stressed by the fascist coup underway in the US (Why would you be stressed by that? 🙃) and you don't know what to do, take this ONE action TODAY. Download the @5calls.org app and get after your reps!
Let's all take a moment to thank the @5calls.org team for making the single most useful tool for exercising our protest, on a daily basis.

From my understanding it's a small company. The person I dealt w to create the book ban script is also the one emailing us all for alerts.

Download it today!

I would love to see a bunch of musical artists and celebrities put on a nationally televised tribute concert for Pres. Jimmy Carter on inauguration day with all proceeds going to Habitat for Humanity.

We know that having a librarian and a library in every school improves literacy, sel, and literally saves money. Why won’t the school district pay for it for all students? 🤔

I suggested to SLJ a story about the effect of book banning on school boards, and they made it happen! So happy to see my former BOE prez Rob Kirchberger sharing his perspective & validating that it’s all a craven political ploy. www.schoollibraryjournal.com/story/School...

Posting this reply for all because it's important.

At this point, there's loads of research about the benefits of reading GNs. www.scholastic.com/parents/book... and

Lynn Yuodsnukis organized Chris Van Dusen Day at BHM on November 12. Doors were decorated, student stories submitted, and a story walk explored. @chrisvandusenbooks.bsky.social read stories, drew student suggestions, and signed books! A great time was had by all!

this is an open letter to publishers from @authorsabb.bsky.social. it should give you an idea of what authors are currently up against in the united states, especially those who are making books that contain marginalized characters (even and especially if those "characters" are ourselves).
