Octavia E. Butler signed this copy of Parable of the Sower for my late mother, Patricia Stephens Due.

The power of these Black women inspired me to write an essay after Tr*mp's inauguration in 2017. I've reposted a slightly revised version I hope will bring you hope today.

Surviving President Tr*mp: Lessons from the 1960s and Octavia E. Butler
I originally wrote this essay to coincide with the inauguration of Donald Trump on January 20, 2017. It deeply grieves me to publish it…

Hubby @kundalinisteve.bsky.social and I have collected donations to a charity fund for those in need at the holidays.

Reach out if you need a little extra money via PayPal to get by.
It's not enough for rent or a car payment, but it's enough for groceries and smaller gaps.

Watching @imaniperry.bsky.social and @tananarivedue.bsky.social talk about Octavia E. Butler—master of the gray area, master of discomfort, aka my matron saint 👑—was my jam last night. 🙏🏽They reminded me that I’m long overdue for another reread of her Xenogenesis trilogy. Reading it now 1/3

Such a wonderful & meaningful @libraryofamerica.bsky.social convo: @imaniperry.bsky.social's comments about needing to embrace discomfort to rightly course correct & achieve needed change & @tananarivedue.bsky.social's perceptive comments about Black women leading--both the promise & peril therein.

Ghost Summer: Stories by @tananarivedue.bsky.social

Another collection of short stories that blew me away! I read this for more Nayima stories and was excited to get more Gracetown too! Ghost Summer, Herd Immunity, Patient Zero and Danger Word were my favorites, but they were all great.

I'm speechless. Literary icon @tananarivedue.bsky.social has graced THE CURSE OF HESTER GARDENS with the most incredible blurb. To have someone I admire so deeply say such wonderful things about my debut novel is a dream come true.

I’ve said this before, but a huge function of our carceral system is resource extraction from exploited communities, and that includes the fees, commissary, and essentials people send to their loved ones, not to mention the time, attention, energy, etc.

This is a BIG reason I wrote Burn It Down. I was v tired of doing One Bad Man stories & wanted to shout from the rooftops that every He's Just One Bad Man is NOT a one-off--each 1 is propped up by multiple interlocking systems of enabling, protection & even celebration. The SYSTEMS are def evergreen
Terrific book that unfortunately remains evergreen.
ANYWAY! My 2023 book -- about systemic, institutionalized, longstanding patterns of misconduct, abuse, predation, and the enabling and even the celebration of same by the powerful -- was titled Burn It Down 🔥🔥🔥🔥 just sayin' bookshop.org/p/books/burn...

There are a few, but head and shoulders above them for me - The Reformatory by @tananarivedue.bsky.social. It’s a compelling ghostly horror story, but the real horror is what the black community suffered on a daily basis. An urgent book, a passionate necessary book, an excellent read.

agreeing to make a terrible deal while your main opponent is quite literally being boo'd on live tv by an entire stadium of people is the kind of political instinct you'd normally only find in a 3 week old dead goldfish

Anyway a great way to radicalize people is for them to realize that you just abandoned their chance at being able to access and afford health care because you didn’t like waiting in line at the airport.

I'll be honest, I lost interest in GDT's FRANKENSTEIN when I learned it would be ignoring an integral part of the original novel.
