Quick introductory post: I teach English as a Second and Third language and Ethics to high schoolers in Germany. I also support students with Special Educational Needs and am a passionate advocate for accommodations for those who need them. I've been teaching for >20 years and still love it. #edusky

Grief comes in waves. Sometimes it sneaks up when you're not looking. We were just looking at wedding photos from 2009 and there were so many people who are no longer with us. My cousin who passed away in October was there and I came undone. I miss her and it's so bloody unfair that she's gone.

All teachers in DE born after 1970 had to either show their vaccine record, proof of immunity or medical exemption for measles. All my pre-2014 Vax records are in a box in Australia so I had a blood test done to prove immunity. I know I was jabbed after A was born due to an outbreak at the time.
If you are not sure if you had all your vaccines, the GP can check for you
UK kids can go to the GP and ask to get the vaccines they missed by using their Gillick competency rights
If you have people coming to school to do flu or HPV vaccines, they will often do missed vaccines at the same time

So for the past several years our school has given out Krapfen on the last day before the Faschingferien. They are GOOD - fresh, soft, generous filling of tart jam. They have spoiled me for other Krapfen. I haven't had one this year in anticipation of today.

Today I told my tenth grade class that I like them and enjoy teaching them. I thought my behaviour towards them made that quite clear but they were genuinely chuffed that I explicitly said so out loud. They said that not many teachers would feel that way, or say so, which is sad.

Just picked up my incredibly pretty Aussie passport. Seriously beautiful images on every page (except the photo page. Holy crap I have ten years of that nonsense picture). NOW to contact the KVR to have my residency permit extended and oh so subtly ask how my citizenship application is going.
