My machine will take off a head in a twinkling and the victim will feel nothing but a refreshing coolness. We cannot make too much haste, gentlemen, to allow the nation to enjoy this advantage.

You may have noticed trees bursting into leaf in mid November. This is profoundly unnatural and could lead to ecological collapse and thereby societal collapse. This is due to climate change which is caused by western lifestyles. Just saying really

The real disgrace in UK's welfare bill is that so much of it is spent on people in work. We are subsidising jobs that do not pay enough to live on. If we genuinely made sure work paid a decent living, then we would not have such a high bill.

Very sad that I felt I had no choice but to resign from The Infinite Monkey Cage - a victory for the transphobes and other bigots - I did it because so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.

I'm deeply concerned about the wellbeing of prisoners who were involved in Palestine Action protests, and are currently on hunger strike.

Some have not eaten for six weeks. A number have been hospitalised. They are all being held on remand - without trial or conviction.

How long are we meant to do this for? Forever? I mean, it's total bullshit, this all needs to change. Stop what you're doing... everyone, listen, EVERYONE. Stop it, whatever that is, just do something else. I don't care what, just something else. This is all bollocks that we're doing now.

There are inherent structural problems with the very nature of our existence that lead us to inevitably despair.

For example, it is a very bad idea to play with swords when you are drunk.

But on the other hand, when you are sober you just don't really want to play with swords, if I'm honest.

There's a female character I'm playing in a video game who is meant to be British but she switches between east end gangster moll cockney and jolly hockey sticks Queens English with such alarming ease I don't know if I'm meant to be Elizabeth Hurley or Pat Butcher.

The American mind will never comprehend or conceive of this.
American "soccer" fan breaking down in frustrated tears as he tries and fails to comprehend a Horsham FC fan chant which goes "Give me lard in my heart / Keep me Horsham / Give me lard in my heart / I pray" and finishes with "No surrender, no surrender, no surrender to the low fat spread."

Yay, just in time for my PIP application to be rejected. Cheers Wes. Prick.
In November an 18 month investigation into ADHD concluded.

It found ADHD is massively underdiagnosed with less than 1 in 20 people over 40 receiving treatment.

It said GPs need to be diagnosing it.

Instead a review has been launched looking into it being 'overdiagnosed'

Noticed my brother followed me on here, mentioned it to him hoping he would compliment my acerbic wit and keen political insight. Apparently mum thinks I've been a bit nuts recently and asked him to keep an eye on me. Sadface.

The fact that mince pies are not available all year only serves to underscore the iron grip our capitalist overlords have on our hearts and minds. This seasonal scarcity is entirely contrived. We could be living in a utopia you fools.

This thread, damn.

“this is not dunking on kids. We are seeing this at all levels--even grad students. AI + social media has had a profound impact on how we think and process our world, and we can't stop to reflect on it, because billionaires keep hurling addictive tech at us.”
An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

Pffft. According to my boss 'never mind, you'll be dead soon' is not an appropriate response to boomers complaining about the mansion tax. I think it's factual and comforting.

when you see ppl ranting on the news, print, radio, and podcasts claiming that zack polanski's economics are 'crazy' and 'communist' and so on pls remember that these are the same ppl currently calling rachel reeves a 'socialist' for her bog-standard, typical, trickle-down budget.

I did not know this.
Today we’ll get latest net immigration figures - They’ll show immigration for work is plummeting.

Why is this not part of the discussion on Rachel Reeves balancing her books & stalled growth?

For every 100,000 drop in net immigration, the OBR adds £7bn to the deficit. #r4today

Hey, you missed a bit of your headline there bud, I'll help... Is racist Farage right to claim that racism allegations are a response to his racist policies? See, you can totally write that cos libel is judged on a balance of probability and 20 ppl have already confirmed it so you're fine. Have fun.

I cannot stress enough just how much wide LLM adoption is harming the human capacity to *try*. To just do things on your own, to think critically about a topic or a problem, to read and synthesize ideas. These are such important skills and we’re just giving them up.

Do we think someone 5 years from now protesting the right-wing fascists your government is paving the way for should go to prison for up to 3 years without a fair trial? Because that's what'll happen.
We all know that the whole reason for scrapping trial by jury is to make sure one of these situations results in punishment while the other doesn't.

This whole "pretending things aren't what they obviously are" charade is so exhausting

pretty much every long-time Labour volunteer I know is seriously considering whether to vote Green or Lib Dem.
It is amazingly horrifying in how little Labour leaders have zero, even negative faith in the values that their party's supposed to stand for. I have the deepest sympathies for the party ground floor workers and supporters who're disgusted by this grotesque betrayal of their values. It's despairing.

Most companies holed up in Gibraltar & Malta, dodge UK taxes. Some pay corporation tax at the rate of 3%-4%. No VAT on gambling.

Public bears the cost of gambling addiction.

Firms resent paying extra tax to clear their mess.

Tax them.
