He promised them "one-way missions" and that they would be "hunted." The unfiltered rage of a U.S. combat veteran. #CombatVeteran

Mars was the Roman god of war.
That’s why we say ‘martial arts,' ‘martial law,' and 'court martial.'

Marshall was the Roman god of designer fashion at discount prices.
That’s why we have Marshall’s.

This was an especially wonderful read. Always a great newsletter but really loved this one.

My father was supposedly one of the smartest people in the world, and he hated that elitist nonsense.

He loathed the idea that intelligence is something you're born with, a single trait that can be measured. It leads to eugenics and bad policy.

I'm, at NYCC this weekend at Artist Alley Booth I-01, at the front of Artist Alley!

A recent commission, watercolor with ink and shell gold. The commissioner wanted me to dream up a “sandman Universe” version of Poison Ivy, so I imagined her as a fairy tale like denizen of Queen Titania’s court!
A woman in a flowing, diaphanous green gown with leaves scattered about her and green energy flowing from her. She has swirling red hair.

Today is the birthday of artist John Forte (Oct. 6, 1918-May 20, 1966). He drew for a variety of publishers in the Golden Age, such as Timely/Marvel & Fiction House, but is probably most remembered today for his work on the early years of the Legion of Super-Heroes.
A black and white photo of Forte. A splash page from the Legion of Super-Heroes story, “The Super-Moby Dick of Space!” It shows Superboy, Saturn Girl, and Lightning Lad confronting a giant, flying green whale with small red wings. Lightning Lad wants revenge against the creature for costing him his right arm, which has been replaced by a bionic one.
