On the latest episode, David and Wes discussed an inconvenient truth for urbanists:

Better transit service will improve regional mobility, but— let's be honest—it won't actually reduce traffic congestion. (Blame induced demand.)

This week's episode is all about rural transportation.

Traveling in the countryside is dangerous and expensive—and nearly impossible without a car. Could autonomous vehicles be a solution?

Join David and Wes for the livestream on Tuesday @6p ET, or listen afterward on any podcast platform.

Last week, we talked about the Future of Useful Transit & how Denver's transit agency—who recently declared a shift towards prioritizing big events—is misdiagnosing the problem

This week, this same transit agency decided to do exactly what we suggested: increase frequency

It's true! We agreed that one (1) Trump idea for transportation is genuinely terrific. (Hint: It's not dressing up before going to the airport.)

Thanks for the kind words, @jordihoney.bsky.social.

Genius strategy on the part of Chicago, which will help make up for their enormous failure in doing the 99 year lease of the parking spaces to begin with.
In which @wesmars.bsky.social invokes Taylor Swift to fix Chicago's parking meter fiasco—and it almost makes sense.

@davidzipper.bsky.social thinks the rising popularity of golf carts suggests that the US has untapped demand for mnicars that are widespread across East Asia and Europe.

A bunch of autonomous vehicle boosters are mad at me for arguing that robotaxis’ safety benefits are wildly exaggerated. It’s gotten pretty ugly.

@wesmars.bsky.social and I delved into pushback in a new episode of @lookbothwayspod.bsky.social, coming later this week. Here’s a snippet.

“if you elect somebody that only travels around in the back of a limo, you’re gunna get that person fixing problems from that perspective. If you elect somebody that maybe bikes around the city or takes transit, they’re gunna start fixing problems more aligned with the regular people of the city”
In the next episode, Wes & David delve into Mayor Mamdani's fast start with transportation reforms (Manhattan Bridge bike bump, Madison Ave bus lane, McGuinness Blvd...)

@wesmars.bsky.social: "I just love that he didn't appoint a blue ribbon commission for every stupid thing."

In a new episode of @lookbothwayspod.bsky.social, I called for a broader definition of self-driving safety.

Even if AVs are safer per mile than human drivers (a big if!), total crashes could rise if AVs induce more driving—which is entirely plausible. That's esp true if AVs compete with transit.
