It’s genuinely wild that the United States spent decades building an elaborate rules-based international order which de facto cemented its permanent status as the dominant global hegemon, sustained by ideology rather than might, and now is just blowing it all up for literally no reason

It’s easy in these moments to get exasperated by the UN, but the Charter does two key things that have helped define the post-1945 world: it outlaws the use of aggressive warfare as a tool for remaking international order, and it underwrites postcolonial sovereignty. US actions this week breach both

They need to put the onus for impeachment squarely on the Republicans: this was a dangerous, illegal, unconstitutional act, and only the Republicans can do something about it. If they won’t fulfill their Constitutional obligations, we need Democratic majorities that will.

the trump administration is living inside a social media dreamworld where the US is literally all-powerful and can do anything it wants to anyone it wants, and the US media, rather than pointing out this is deranged madness, is trying to demonstrate its neutrality by dignifying the fantasy

As states struggle to deal with the new SNAP error requirements, expect to see a lot more of this: Turn welfare spending into block grants. We know what this means because it has been tried - less money goes to the poor. Block grants are how Brett Farve got $1m in welfare funding for speeches.

Photos of bound and blind prisoners are not the flex you think they are. They’re a sign of immense deep weakness on the part of the people taking and sharing those photos, and the society that celebrates it.
We are what we do, not what we proclaim.

As president, Joe Biden ended the “forever war” in Afghanistan, reduced the drone program to near zero, and did not launch any regime change operations.
Americans didn’t like that or didn’t care, and voted to bring those things back.

Yes! I doubt most Americans even know that we used virtually no drones during his administration.
Doubling down. It is not a controversial take to give respect to AP and Reuters journalists in Venezuela, most of who are local or from Lat Am, currently risking their lives, and who are paid for their work — so everyone else can benefit from their reporting.

impeach him. try to do it once a month, if necessary. build the case over and over to not just the American people but to the world that this isn’t the way things should be here, that this isn’t the way we should use our power abroad.

“If we are to have another contest in the near future of our national existence, I predict the dividing line will not be Mason & Dixon’s, but between patriotism and intelligence on one side, and superstition, ambition, and ignorance on the other.”

And please, PLEASE let us not forget that time in 2023 when Karen Smith was elected President of the school board in Bucks County, Pa and swore her oath on a stack of banned books. The most gangsta oath ever! Just brilliant. www.edweek.org/leadership/t...
