yes! Jesus' life and words were always political.
The story was always already about an impoverished unmarried couple facing a pitiless bureaucracy, having a baby in a barn, and then having to hide from a tyrant. The baby grew up to say that the poor were blessed and the neighbor is he who shows mercy. You can’t hide from the politics of all that.

This year, statues of tall men clad in all black with masks drawn up to hide their faces are disrupting the serenity of a Charlotte church's Nativity scene.

The figures are depicted approaching the Holy Family and the Wise Men with handcuffs as if preparing to make an arrest.

1/ In this anniversary year of 2026, I salute:

The coming together of communities that enabled 13 colonies to win a war vs. tremendous odds.

The rage vs. a king’s tyranny that fueled that coming together.

And the fundamental belief that their fight mattered “in the course of human events.”

THIS. Did you know sickle cell is curable, now? FULLY curable.

If you're feeling down or despairing about what FEELS like technology/advancement/science "standing still" or being fully malicious, I have great news: You're not paying attention to actual science. Just tech industry marketing.
meanwhile.... medicine has taken INSANE leaps and bounds in the last 2 years.
we're out here curing HIV and leukemia and creating 100% efficacy vaccines against all sorts of cancers, and now this??

between this and renewable energy outstripping fossil fuels in efficiency, the future is bright
Wanna see real-life miracles? Fund scientific research.

A team of US scientists just cured Alzheimer’s in mice — and there is now hope that the disease can be reversed in humans.

When I worked at a daycare center more than 20 years ago, no one could just walk in, and all the hallways and rooms were covered in cameras. The security was tighter than most workplaces.
“But why DiDnt ThEy jUsT LeT tHeM EnteR?!”

Because no day care in its right mind opens its doors to strangers. Also it’s illegal.

Let a group of 8 screaming Black & brown men with cameras show up to a daycare in a predominately white neighborhood & watch how fast the police arrive and open fire.😐

My Cassandra cred's pretty solid--20+ years on far right beat, ten on Trump, nobody ever accused me of being a ray of sunshine. But at the end of this bad year, I think this too is true: fascism took so much, & yet nowhere near all it could & wants. There's so much left to fight for.

Harassing daycare centers should get you put on a list
This is getting into incredibly dangerous territory
is it not a common experience for sites to do this when they receive a huge influx in traffic driven by weird men deciding to hunt daycares?

His entire campaign was built around shotgunning out a bunch of ideas and assuming (correctly) that people would assume that he would do the stuff they wanted him to do, but the things they didn't want him to do were just bluster.

Being unconstrained by truth or reality is an electoral advantage.

Any discussion of how a few actors are protesting Trump's takeover of the Kennedy Center has to consider how Republicans have tried to slash social spending for the arts — and denigrate the arts and humanities as legitimate fields — since at least Reagan, if not longer.

except for the redhead part, this is me! it is why i also found a job with multiple shifts so that i never have to work daylight.
All of this, except summer for me. I cannot handle abundant daylight and temperatures over 70 degrees Fahrenheit. And it’s annoying how most people only believe me when I say the sun makes me miserable, if I phrase it as a redhead joke, not when I say that it’s seasonal depression and it’s serious.
could the “you should be able to be happy living anywhere, and if you’re not able to do that, it’s a skill issue” contingent tell that to my winter seasonal depression, please?

because MAN would that simplify my life if the cure, which I somehow never thought of before, was that easy

Big congratulations to the “no new wars” crowd.

You weren’t the only ones who willfully forgot Trump’s first term, ignored various things he and his team said in the four years after, and voted for a made up version—or didn’t vote while claiming it wouldn’t matter—but no one did it as hard as you.

Some non-rich people would’ve been economically harmed if SVB went under due to its bad investments rather than get a govt bailout, yes.

That’s not a convincing case for a system where anytime rich people’s bad bets economically harm others the govt gives tons of money to those same rich people.

I understand that kitchen table issues are big factors in voters' perceptions. And the Epstein files are significant, as they should be. But - I have to tell you - IMO - listening to Trump speak to and paraphrase Putin - there's nothing else that shouts his unfitness as loudly.

this is the simple answer to people who keep saying NATO expansion matters. Sure, it matters because it presented an obstacle to Russian imperial ambitions. Putin didn't invade because he hated NATO expansion, he hated NATO expansion because he wanted to invade
