I remember wondering how they did the high res text in Secret of Mana for the SNES. It's apparently a clever trick where the SNES does transparency by writing the left half of the pixel the foreground and the right the background, and using black and white. In case you were wondering too.

It's LITERALLY a randomness driven, CPU intensive, garbage generation robot that will create zero of consequence, and people are out here giving them small stock portfolios. I'm just ANGRY at this bullshit. As someone who needs to keep the internet working by my fundamental nature.

Writers if you could drop your novel or short story into an AI and have it make a great and watchable movie out of your story, and you could sell that movie, would you do it? #writers #WritingCommunity

every shot-on-video, made-with-a-camcorder horror movie that's just some teenage friend group fucking around in the woods with some fake blood and a monster mask contains more artistic merit, human joy and creative light than anything AI has ever made or will ever, ever make

Keep your tech alive as long as humanly possible right now. We are going through a period of severe misallocation of resources and people will literally die from it, so preserving what works is super important.
i think lots of people underestimate how badly these “AI” companies want people to be unable to afford computers. they view personal computing as a roadblock to their desire for complete end-to-end centralization. the fact that their tech is putting hardware out of reach is not just a happy accident

What we found is obvious to you, but it needed to be formalised and analysed and fact-checked thoroughly for everyone else:

When AI is presented as a "net climate benefit", it's a false coupling of old machine learning with new, explosive single-use slop firehose dominating tech today.

MAGA, the Nazis, whatever you call em, the project of fascists is the accumulation of power to the end of subjugating who they view as below them. Always. Forever. The Right is an on ramp to fascism.
MAGA is what Republicans have always been/building towards stop trying to separate them

"crime goes down when you get money for giving blood" is an indicator of desperation. Just like army voluntary enrollment. There's a floor of desperation and the people running the show need to keep it BELOW a certain level.
My god do we need UBI

“Researchers have found that when a new plasma center opens in a neighborhood, foot traffic at local grocery stores increases, interest in payday loans declines and crime goes down, an indication of the way money from plasma props up households’ finances for necessities.“
Middle-class Americans are selling their plasma to make ends meet
Last year, people in the U.S. made an estimated $4.7 billion selling their plasma. Donation centers are popping up in middle-class neighborhoods, including suburban strip malls and college towns.

Basically, the longer a conversation goes on, the mathematically further from intelligible language the bot can produce. The math is conceptually interesting but WAY beyond me.
OpenAI ”acknowledged in its own research that LLMs will always produce hallucinations due to fundamental mathematical constraints that cannot be solved through better engineering, marking a significant admission from one of the AI industry’s leading companies.”

You can’t trust chatbots.
OpenAI admits AI hallucinations are mathematically inevitable, not just engineering flaws
In a landmark study, OpenAI researchers reveal that large language models will always produce plausible but false outputs, even with perfect data, due to fundamental statistical and computational limi...

I enjoy the process of curating my ROM collection, getting the metadata, the images, making it all conform to a standard, using star ratings to weed out what works vs what's actually good. I think I like doing this more than playing the games themselves.

Rubio's entire speech was Christian white nationalism. What else could this mean? It's nothing close to actual history, it doesn't make sense except through the invented history of a "shared history, Christian faith, culture, heritage, language, ancestry" in the "common civilization" of whiteness.

I fundamentally believe this era is an illusion. The current versions of Codex and Claude Code are costing OpenAI and Anthropic so much money because they’re running at like a negative 150% gross margin. All improvements involve more and more compute. The limits will be sudden and brutal.

Marco's speech was not nicer in content. Maybe in tone. But it read as, "c'mon guys, join our evil white empire voluntarily now, and we can murder foreigners together like the good old days". There's a hell of a lot of implied threat behind the evil ask.
