One of my grad school professors here at SUNY New Paltz was Arthur Cash, biographer of Laurence Sterne. Classes met in his kitchen. Wine was served. We read Tristram Shandy, and he laughed at each joke and funny scene like a happy, new discovery. What made grad school worthwhile? Moments like this.

I was at school in Yorkshire, not far from where Sterne lived, and read both Tristram Shandy and A Sentimental Journey during weekly choir practice. Here is a picture I made of Shandy Hall back in the late 1960s before it was restored.

Time's running out to see the Glen Baxter exhibition at Shandy Hall (ends 14th Sept) The orchard is full of fruit, the shop has lots of great books (Christmas presents!) The seasons are rolling on. Shandy Hall closes at end of September. Come and enjoy the sunshine while you can!
