#CurrentlyReading “Making Witches: Newfoundland Traditions of Spells and Counterspells” by Barbara Rieti. Listening to this on audiobook is well worth it to hear the captured folklore in its native dialect. This is a gold mine of witch lore, with some captures as recent at 1966 so far.

This was a memorable gothic folk horror with a ton of twists and turns. Themes of madness, witchcraft, and family trauma. 4/5 ⭐️

In Scotland, Beira is the Queen of Winter. With one eye, blue skin & copper-coloured teeth, she carries a hammer, which she uses to shape Scotland's hills & valleys.
Like her Irish counterpart, Cailleach, she fights to hold back the tide of Spring.
