There's no use in making the humanities relevant, @chatterton.bsky.social argues, because "the most useful lesson the humanities have to offer today is a profoundly countercultural one:"
Stop Trying to Make the Humanities ‘Relevant’
For humanities departments to continue to matter, they must challenge the modern world rather than accommodate it.

This semester, for our Plant & Micro Biosci Grad program, I'm developing a new course on ✨Peer Review✨ & critical thinking. Final project is a full review of a preprint!

I'd love to have a journal editor zoom with the class to share their perspective and do a Q&A.
Anyone interested?

Pls share!

For the love of jumping genes! Rebel Artist for Science™ here, and I spotted a pink pumpkin—this one's plastic, but pink pumpkins are real. A farmer noticed the mutant among the orange pumpkins in her field. She cultivated more through careful selection and now offers the seeds to other growers.

It's homecoming weekend! I had a great time in the parade with Falcon Heights Council Member Paula Mielke. I am proud to fight for UMN students at City Hall and want our city to be an equitable place for students during their education and beyond.

Happy homecoming, and Go Gophs!

Did a woman scientist win the 2025 Nobel Prize? YES! Today is a good day for women in science. Dr. Mary Brunkow was awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine with her two male colleagues, Fred Ramsdell and Shimon Sakaguchi.

Who will win the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine tomorrow? Will it be a woman? Like Dr. Katalin Karikó, who was awarded the Nobel in 2023. I had the chance to speak with the amazing “Kati” Karikó just two days before the announcement.

Did you get your flu vax? I got mine, and then the nurse and I exchanged stickers. She looked at my Rebel Artist for Science stickers and said, “This one — American Science is our National Treasure,” and promptly stuck it on her uniform. “Where can I get more?” she asked.

“Would you like a Rebel Artist for Science sticker?” “Yes,” said a guard at the National Academy of Sciences. “May I have two?” She promptly slapped them on her security officer uniform. We laughed, and said, “We support science. We stick together!”
