With 98.7% of submissions OPPOSING this bill, it is beyond belief that this wanker heavy coalition are forcing it through anyway. 🤨 Yes Labour absolutely needs to commit to repealing it on day one! #nzpol #OneTermGovernment #Aotearoa #NewZealand

As one of the orgs that was privileged enough to be able to present an oral submission on the RSB to we are about to issue an emergency press release saying the opposition leaders must issue a joint statement saying they will repeal the law should the bill pass.

I was not successful in winning the Māori Ward. It would have been an absolute honour but democracy has spoken.

A huge congratulations to @ponekematt.bsky.social who will be an amazing Councillor and serve our people well ❤️ #nzpol

Incredible typo at the Spinoff '“We are going to produce a rational, sensible, fact-based, understandable transport plan,” Brown said...this afternoon. Asked if that plan could include surface-level light rain, Brown responded, “It might do.'

Also ... remember when Whanganui wouldn't even put an "h" in its name because Maoris were bloody well asking for too much?

(Additional update: Michael Laws lives in Cromwell these days and is stinking up the Otago Regional Council.)
Whanganui votes to retain Māori wards
Whanganui has voted to retain its Māori wards in a tight contest.

Progress votes show 6663 people voted to retain a Māori ward, while 6213 voted to have it removed.

More than 1000 ballots left the Māori ward option blank.

Juile Herewini on 906 votes and Geoff Hipango on 738 votes have been returned as Māori ward councillors.

We’ve long tried to make the distinction between journalists and media *decision makers* for exactly this reason

Think it’s also important to ask at what point editorial capture and quashing of stories becomes election interference, because the outcome here is identical

I cant even tell you the number of public interest (and interesting) stories about the local election that journos wanted to do, but couldn't because of editors..

Shout out those that did do coverage, esp The Spinoff

Well done media, you achieved this brilliantly, your campaign to nearly completely ignore AKL’s local elections has flowed on to its inevitable outcome. Accelerating your own irrelevance simultaneously -> www.thepost.co.nz/nz-news/3608...

XY’s postgame episode is generally seen as the best of the game’s story, but I feel most don’t realize how essential it is narrative.

Here’s a brief thread digging into what I mean. The gist: Looker’s actions connect to the game's themes and exploration of wealth and inequity.

Other than the mayor, which seems a reasonably foregone conclusion, genuinely uncertain of the parameters of the Council Wellington is going to get.

Could be a slight shift to the left, drift to the centre, or an increase in the hard right bloc.

Still 2 1/2 hours to vote if you want a say!
