... concluded lawfully in the exercise of their freedom to move and reside within another MS, in which they have created or strengthened a family life,...

In the light of all the foregoing, [EU law] must be interpreted as precluding legislation of a MS which, on the ground that the law of that MS does not allow marriage between persons of the same sex, does not permit the recognition of a marriage between two same-sex nationals of that MS ...

Therefore, if that marriage is not recognised (), there is a genuine risk that those citizens will face serious obstacles in regulating their family life (), in so far as they will be unable, in () everyday life – both in the public and in the private spheres – to rely on their marital status ().

Nevertheless, () each MS must comply with EU law, () on the freedom conferred on all Union citizens to move and reside (), by recognising, for that purpose, the civil status of persons that has been established in another MS in accordance with the law of that other MS

Some key passages:

Admittedly, as EU law currently stands, the rules on marriage come within the competence of the Member States, and EU law cannot detract from that competence. The MS are thus free to decide whether or not to allow marriage for persons of the same sex under their national law ().

Interesting 🧵 and discussion on the risks of bots for survey response, including where the bots deduce from the questions what the survey is about and give the desired answers to confirm the researchers latent hypotheses … 😳
new paper by Sean Westwood:

With current technology, it is impossible to tell whether survey respondents are real or bots. Among other things, makes it easy for bad actors to manipulate outcomes. No good news here for the future of online-based survey research
