You love to see it.
What would a TV ad promoting alternatives to driving look like? What if people who love cycling and progressive transportation reclaimed ideas like freedom, independence and even patriotism? We decided to give it a shot. Check out our new video, "America, It's Just Like Riding a Bike."

Don made an extraordinary difference in this world by elevating what should be common sense, and I think that if we could do anything to honor his impact, it would be to similarly find our own way to spread sense that is far too uncommon.
I hate to share the news that Professor Don Shoup has passed away.

He was so kind and generous with me and I’m so fortunate know that he was proud of the work I was doing to implement his policies via @parkingreform.org

We lost a great one this week. 😢

THIS STARTER PACK IS FINALLY FULL! I’ve been very selective with the last 20-30 or so inclusions in my very first starter pack, on Urbanism & City-Building. Check out the new additions, and I recommend following everyone here.

So now I guess I’ll start gradually building PART 2! #UrbanistShoutOut

1/4 PSA from those of us going into a 4th day of a public-safety power shutdown east of the LA fires 🔥 due to high winds, dry veg, & power lines in super high fire hazard areas in our neighborhood. Solar panels & backup systems like Tesla Power Walls, do not guarantee all bases covered. 🧵

Love thee, Notre Dame! ☘️
But yes, it’s an area of design and policy innovation (and advocacy) that I would encourage more New Urbanists to work toward, and shout from the rooftops about!
Atlanta’s Mayor Dinkins is prioritizing raising children as a policy priority, and it reinforces the City’s planning strategy of investing in complete neighborhoods. And there are folks studying the issue (for example: www.brookings.edu/articles/und...).

I agree, it’s fundamental. While important for implementation, focusing solely on the right housing product misses the bigger picture: families need neighborhoods, and the complete list of daily needs, services (schools!) that support children’s needs as well as adults.
This is an important point, one that I know CNU has had sessions about before but is ripe in the 2025 host city - Providence. The city has focused on adaptive reuse of historic (former office/commercial) buildings into micro units there, but are families being encouraged/accommodated too?

Parking lots turn streets into miserable places to walk.

New study finds that parking lots "negatively - and substantially - impact walkability; their objective walkability score is half that of other road segments."
