How fitting that this happened at Morrill Hall, named after the 1862 act giving stolen Native American land to land grant universities like UMinn to promote settler colonialist agriculture and its extractive practices.
Another colonizer institution perpetuating racism and ignoring its own history.
NEW: In a protest against the University of Minnesota’s accommodation of DHS & ICE, 6 students chained themselves to Morrill Hall demanding the university be a sanctuary campus. Three of the chained students left after being threatened with academic retaliation and police arrested the remaining 3.

One of the largest oil drilling rigs in the U.S. (nicknamed “the beast”) crashed to the ground half a mile from an Alaska Native village. The Village of Nuiqsut is concerned that warming temperatures and shifting ice might have caused the fall.
Investigation continues over massive oil rig toppling on North Slope as Nuiqsut residents raise concerns
The Department of Environmental Conservation said it has been unable to get close to the wreckage, due to worries that metal from Rig 26 might fall on response team members.

This is one of the most important cases that galvanized Black people in the late 40s through the 1950s. Almost every major Black leader had a comment about it. It is also one of the most successful defense committees that was organized in the 20th century. Almost no one knows about it today.
On this day in 1948, an all-white jury sentenced a Black woman and two of her teenage sons to death for killing an armed white man in self-defense.

Very little if anything seems to have changed on the ground. ICE is still out there terrorizing neighborhoods and trying to disappear neighbors. None of us on the ground are buying this bullshit. We will keep organizing and fighting.
The intense fallout from the killing of Alex Pretti has forced President Trump to publicly change course in Minneapolis.

Listen to our White House reporters discuss the changes on today's episode of "The Daily."
