You absolutely know this is a White woman, because women of color don’t have the luxury of smelling like onion, goat, ozone or salt.
For eg, brown women often get told they (and their privates) smell like curry, at whatever age.

I'm going to start calling essays like this "odes to whiteness" because the underlying premise is that they are like this because they don't anticipate any social cost to smelling bad.

This one is v. frustrating because it tries to lump in perfumes with the broader (problematic) beauty industry

I’m turning 50 next year. I rarely wear deodorant anymore. Many women I know have stopped, too. We don’t talk about it, but I catch it in the air — a faint musk of onion, goat, curry, mustard, salt, sage, fennel, ozone, and the muddy wet marrow of the earth itself. I’m kind of obsessed with this collective stink: the animal symphony of skin, of women being women, punk and unfiltered, taking up space with their scent. Raw, unapologetic BO. The more I live among it, the more I see it not as a hygiene failure but as a radical act of self-acceptance. It’s not polite, but it’s honest — and that feels hot. Hotter, even, than anything a Guess ad ever promised.

Azine's informal free housing arrangement is about to end abruptly. We don't know when; it could be at any time. We need to raise money to get her into an Airbnb as quickly as we can manage.

We don't have the resources for long-term solutions, so I'm just keeping her alive as long as I can.

Transcript: Azine's Story
Azine travels the world to meet people dear to her. That is her reason for living, as she doesnt know how much time she has left. This goes for everyone, especially with how the world is today. Goes extra for her because of heart-lung disease from birth + a series of embolisms in 2016.

Embolisms are kept at bay by medication, due to having had more than one. Dystonia and seizures, were made worse by Lyme disease (tick bite 2009). MCAS, probably from birth, is made a lot worse by environmental toxins. She takes 4 antihistamines including compounded ketotifen (expensive) in very high doses to keep her skin from peeling off & to keep limited food down.
"I dont have access to health insurance, even though that is mandatory where I was born.Because people with Lyme and ME/CFS are routinely denied healthcare, persecuted, and jailed in psychiatric hospitals. That is why I became a traveler/refugee. That is why my mom, who still lives there, is deep in debt. Because there was never gov. support or funding for me, not even welfare."

I appreciate all the people showing love and support to me. I’m so grateful honestly. It means a lot. The ban isn’t that big of a deal for me. I think it was wrong and the explanation was bullshit. But that’s ok and I accept. Social media comes and goes. I’m grateful for all the connections I was able to make and all the people I get to be connected with off Bluesky. More importantly, the world needs more people to give a fuck. More people to give a fuck about Palestinians, more people to give a fuck about disabled folks, more people to give a fuck about our queer and trans siblings, more people to give a fuck about Black liberation. The world, and Bluesky, is full of bootlickers who will do anything to avoid doing anything to upset the status quo. These people are cowards groveling to those in power in hopes of protection. I just hope people continue to show love and care and kindness. Mutual aid is so important. Give when you can, boost when you can. We only survive this together.

Lots of fools wishing to be relieved of their money, I guess.

He believes the Armageddon will be ushered in by an antichrist-type figure who cultivates a fear of existential threats such as climate change, AI and nuclear war to amass inordinate power. The idea is this figure will convince people to do everything they can to avoid something like a third world war, including accepting a one-world order charged with protecting everyone from the apocalypse that implements a complete restriction of technological progress. In his mind, this is already happening. Thiel said that international financial bodies, which make it more difficult for people to shelter their wealth in tax havens, are one sign the antichrist may be amassing power and hastening Armageddon, saying: “It’s become quite difficult to hide one’s money.”

It’s because the antichrist talks about Armageddon nonstop. We’re all scared to death that we’re sleepwalking into Armageddon. And then because we know world war three will be an unjust war, that pushes us. We’re going hard towards peace at any price.

What I worry about in that sort of situation is you don’t think too hard about the details of the peace and it becomes much more likely that you get an unjust peace. This is, by the way, the slogan of the antichrist: 1 Thessalonians 5:3. It’s peace and safety, sort of the unjust peace.

Let me conclude on this choice of antichrist or Armageddon. And again, in some ways the stagnation and the existential risks are complementary, not contradictory. The existential risk pushes us towards stagnation and distracts us from it.

How does Thiel think Armageddon will happen?
Thiel rarely gives a definitive answer about who exactly the antichrist might be or how Armageddon might come about – a central point across his lectures is that nothing is written in stone or inevitable – but he does give the contours of what a global conflict that could lead to Armageddon might look like.
