Allow me to (re)introduce myself. I’m a German-Irish writer and translator, disciple of Drndić, Sebald and Benjamin. I write about memory, nostalgia and identity by way of my German-Polish family history full of spies, forced labour, and lost homes. I'm adding some essays and books of mine below.

The refugee identity card of my grandfather Willi, issued by the city of Solingen in 1948. He had spent the previous years as POW in France and was unable to return to his home in Pomerania, which had become part of Poland. He settled in Solingen instead where he met my grandmother, also a refugee.

Nach schweren russischen Angriffen auf die zivile Energieinfrastruktur leiden viele Menschen in Kyjiw unter Stromausfällen und extremen Temperaturen.

In “How the Łyna Was Created,” Maria Zientara-Malewska (1894-1984) tells the story of the longest river in Warmia-Masuria in the north of Poland. Ałna was the wife of a chieftain here. When he fell in battle, she cried so much that the earth itself shared her despair; their tears formed the river.
