Children's/YA writers in need of feedback, you can bid for a (min) 2k editorial report on the first 15k of a novel. Written by me, an award-winning author with 15 years experience and a Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing. I am kind but thorough. #UKKidLit #kidlit

I am missing #SundayMorningBookChat from @slatterymr.bsky.social but I also have a question for the #KidLit community arising from the last book I read. It seems hard to write a really strong children’s book told fully in first person (from a single character). Hit me up with any stellar examples!

I see a few people have already recommended her but @scattyscribbler.bsky.social's historical fiction for kids is great!

I have moved around a lot. Currently, the North East of England is home, so I'm going to go for Skellig. There arent many novels which I reread just for myelf, but this is one of them.

Embarrassed to realise my ignorance of Scottish children's authors & illustrators, guess I've got my homework! So, three recommended books published this year by Irish authors:
Songs for Ghosts (YA)
The Grand Central Cinema Club (MG)
Letters to a Monster (smallies)

All obvious ones, but some of the greatest children’s writers ever were Scottish, including J.M. Barrie, Kenneth Grahame, R. M. Ballantyne, Eric Linklater, and Robert Louis Stevenson.

Here's a nice readaloud idea for Parents/Teachers in the buildup to Christmas. Wrap all Xmas/Winter books up individually and read 1 a day from Dec 1st.
