This makes me feel old but also so lucky to have experienced and adored every minute of this album while living in Sheffield in 1995. It will forever be the most beloved soundtrack of my life. "A different class it truly is."

A Different Class of social commentary: Pulp’s era-defining album turns 30
All the tracks have stood the test of time, but Common People stands out above them all.

I have not done too well with reading for pleasure in recent years. This year I am on 7 books and want to reach the 10 mark before the end of year. I know this is meagre for some, but it will be a welcome small achievement for me. #reading #books #wellbeing

In the late 19th century, millions of migrants left Germany as a result of religious persecution, economic hardship, and political uncertainty.

Among them was Nikolaus Schrod, a cabinet maker from Frankfurt who - along with his wife Bina - moved to London to start a new life in the 1850s. 1/3

#EuropeanAssociationArchaeologists members: what is your view for the per rollam vote that has been sent out?
I want to vote yes, so that it is clear that members want change. But, at the same time, I find these proposals (below) very problematic.

Reform is not some unstoppable political force.

It spent the weekend calling Lucy Connolly a "political prisoner", cheering a guy who opposes Covid vaccines & dismissing climate change.

Labour should spray these clips across the web.

Make Reform fight on this ground. It is eminently beatable.
Reform call Connolly "Britain's favourite political prisoner"

Soft on crime, soft on racism

We don't have political prisoners.

The woman who posted "“Mass deportation now, set fire to all the fucking hotels full of the bastards for all I care” is not a national treasure, ouside their conference.

A very important message. Archaeology is not 'neutral', it must always live up to its ethical responsibility. Many Congratulations @zenakamash.bsky.social !!
One of the key points I make in "Heritage and Healing in Syria and Iraq" is about the roles and ethical responsibilities of archaeological and heritage organisations in conflict areas. In the following skeets is the text of my acceptance speech 1/n

Here’s a CNRS offer to come to PACEA. It’s a multi-year contract that at the end will turn into a permanent Senior Researcher position if objectives are met. So if you’re a several years post PhD and a specialist in paleoenvironments, geoarchaeology, and human adaptation give it a look!
🚨 Join the PACEA Laboratory! The CNRS @cnrsecologie.bsky.social is recruiting a senior postdoc (3 to 6-year contract) to work on Pleistocene and Holocene paleoenvironments. This is part of a long-term strategy and may lead to a permanent full-time research position emploi.cnrs.fr/Offres/CPJ/C...

Key takeaway: the product doesn’t suffer, but the process does. And when it comes to essays, the process *is* how they learn.

Extreme marking season is upon me but we are not required to annotate student scripts. My guilty pleasure is to annotate them for my own enjoyment with truly honest thoughts about the contents. Comments can include stuff like“Blooming brilliant” but more often I resort to “WTF?!”
Very cathartic
