Connecting with people doing amazing & important (usually voluntarily) work aimed at making archaeology safer for all has been such an incredibly inspiring process. Hugest thanks to @archaeocobb.bsky.social & also to all contributors! Out soon www.archaeopress.com/Archaeopress...
Very excited for @laurarichmond.bsky.social today & the launch of 'All My Worldly Joy', it is such a beautifully written personal exploration of maternal mental health & the system women (in Britain) encounter - honestly can't recommend it enough 🩷

Thanks @zenakamash.bsky.social for this. The EAA membership have made their views very clear. What an avoidable mess & stress for so many in finally reaching this point. Lets hope that the promised taskforce do engage fully with the membership going forward.
🚨EAA per rollam vote results🚨

For anyone who doesn't want to trawl through a long document to find the results, I've compiled them here. Well done to everyone who voted for demonstrating strongly and clearly that change is needed 👏🏼👏🏼

Not all coarse wares are dull - look at this lovely micaceous fabric, a #Roman example made in Britain, which sparkles beautifully in the light 🏺 A small joy on a grey, rainy day. @sgrp.bsky.social #pottery

The NPPF defines sustainable development as environmental, *social* and economic sustainability - people have to live, work, walk, be safe and happy in these places. This is so incredibly poor 😫
The Guardian has covered the story that there's no mention of women's safety in new planning guidance, despite it being recommended in two major government reports in the last month. But this is what the Dept of Housing, Communities and Local Gov had to say.

Where's my pitchfork...

Cue @georgetakei.bsky.social meme:

“The very first rubber dick to touch government-issued leather boots triggered a full-blown chemical weapons response. That is not metaphor… That is a literal sentence that happened in America in 2026.”

To confirm what Alex says, UK Immigration swoop on construction sites - we have seen them round up men into vans in London.

Argue against giving NI numbers and other ID during inductions, if we refuse others will also be able to. And #JoinAUnion for legal support.
The best thing that folks in the UK can do if they’re feeling inspired by folks in the US is to get connected with your local immigration raid watch and other migrant justice groups.

Labour has only been emboldened by the increase of anti-immigrant violence in the US - don’t let it get any worse.
Once again tapping my sign: ICE exist in the UK 🚨 They have had arrest powers since 2000. This government - not a hypothetical future one - is working harder than ever before to raid homes and businesses.

I’ve been doing some research into the Roman graffiti in @colmuseums.bsky.social and came across this lovely example. Sabina was probably either the person that wrote this or who owned the vessel (or both).

Either way, a rare example of a Roman woman’s name written on an object.

This is brilliant.

So many flame wars could be avoided by the original poster simply adding "I think," "I believe," or "For me," before a sweeping statement of personal taste.

The rest could be avoided by replies actually noticing that they did.
I'm wrong to say I didn't enjoy it? How can that be? Unless you claim you were sitting behind me and saw me loving it...

I agree with Jaime here. This is about what we as members want the EAA to be. If you are an EAA member please vote.
So, if you are an @archaeologyeaa.bsky.social (EAA) member from 2025-2026, you received yesterday your email for the per-rollam vote of the past Special Meeting and the documentation attached to it… if you still doubt what to vote, please read all the documents. My short digest:

Well I guess the very heavy redaction of the EAA special meeting minutes is accurate in reflecting the management of the meeting. Check your inboxes folks, the link to voting, draft minutes & dropbox comments arrived late last night.
