Hello all! I'm Alejandra and I'm a bilingual science communicator with a background in marine ecology. Currently I work on environmental policy stuff but I like to post about anything ocean and climate related, and also post some art!

I'm sorry, but an organization taking 50% from one of my works at an auction as a requirement for participation is ridiculous?! Especially when it's not even one that I have no relationship with whatsoever! Am I wrong? #artists #sciart #freelanceart 🦑

No they didn't state anything like that unfortunately. This is coming from a scientific society so I'm not sure if they are familiar with that sort of thing. If they were to do that though, it would definitely feel better for me

I'm sure it depends on the country but for what it's worth in my experience the seller's commission fee for an art auction tends to be around 15%

Then the buyer also gets charged a percentage and some sort of static fee / contribution.

50% is more art gallery levels. That's a LOT for an auction.

That's what I thought. I have a relationship with another org that had previous rates of 25%, but they are good people and I actively participate as one of their members. In contrast, this one I just thought I would apply to bc/ it seemed cool and I think they are US based. I can't afford 50%

Hey since social media and life feels so very tenuous right now, I would really love for anyone who likes my work and wants to keep up with it to sign up for my mailing list! This would be a great way to stay connected in case anything ever happened

Day 17, Trawl. Although numerous advancements have greatly diminished the amount of bycatch in trawls around the world, still hundreds of thoudands of cetaceans are still unintentially caught. #sciartseptember

This is why we can't have nice things, like a stable climate

These companies use front groups to run disinformation campaigns aimed at:

* Creating fake support - astroturf - for more fossil fuel subsidies

* Convincing people that climate change is fake

* Reducing support for renewables
Fossil-fuel firms receive US subsidies worth $31bn each year, study finds
Figure calculated by Oil Change International has more than doubled since 2017 but is likely a vast understatement

Starting today I will have a VERY slow roll out of new mini art prints, shifting from card stock paper (aka postcards) to more archival art prints

Price and shipping remain the same!

Sagittarius for now is the only one I have available, but others will be coming soon(ish)

samanthamash.etsy.com
An infographic that says "PLEASE NOTE: I am in the process of updating all my mini art prints to a new paper source. New prints will be different than previous ones in that instead of a semi-luster card stock material these will be printed on matte archival uncoated paper. At no price increase to you the buyer this will mean prints that are fade-resistant and hold up better over the test of time. The paper will feel different than before. They will also be less resistant to moisture as most uncoated paper is. So please keep them in a dry place or framed."

There are two mini prints one on the left says "Former borderless semi-luster card stock print" and the one of the right says "New bordered matte archival uncoated paper print"
