Pacific NW via every continental US time zone. Working Families Party stan. Women's soccer, genre and queer romance, cephalopods, trains! Forever a librarian in my heart.
It feels more like they want to avoid lawsuits from victims’ families. “Bob never would have done X if policy said every person for themself.”

The training also basically said, “leave everyone else to die.” The answer to almost every question about helping other people was “don’t do it.”

Maybe that’s the best odds, tactically speaking. But it feels gross.

Complete my annual active shooter training for work today. There was a whole slide this year dedicated to how not to get shot by police when you exit the building. It literally said, they have to view everyone as a threat to them. Why is this considered acceptable?

The Oregonian had an editorial today whining the businesses will be scared if we decouple them 🙄

Millions of white American heterosexual males think Miller and Budweiser taste good. Of course it's plausible that they genuinely like Kid Rock.

I had four specific things I needed to do today, and I did all four, and these days that counts as a solid win.

The broader attitude is galling when, here in PDX, it was well known after George Floyd protests that the police were deliberately not responding in timely fashion to 911 calls as retribution against the community. They don’t even do the 911 things we’re supposed to kiss their feet for.

And you know what? I am 100% fine if they don’t enforce those laws. If something criminal is happening, we have municipal, county, state and federal law enforcement agencies. (I think they’re unreformable too, but that’s not relevant here.) Some people don’t have valid visas— this harms society how?
February 9, 2026 at 1:24 AM
I’m seeing this stuff more places, and it’s driving me nuts.

This is exactly like saying, “Don’t like it when the IRS audits your taxes? Guess you won’t be calling 911!”

ICE sucks at their job, AND, their job is very niche. They don’t “enforce The Law,” they enforce a very small set of laws.

TRUE FACT: while no team has ever done this, before the coin flip, either captain has the right to challenge the opposing team’s captain to single combat in lieu of playing the game.

When I was there, the County also required all employees to submit annual disclosures of potential conflicts of interest. This is not the kind of thing that would just “slip by.” If individual commissioners didn’t know about the business, that’s on them.

“They did so, they said, not on the grounds of the Preschool Promise audit but because they didn’t know Barnes owned a preschool.”

I was in HR in the dept housing PFA when Barnes was hired. Conflict of interest was explicitly addressed. This is BS.

In a legal notice, Leslee Barnes says the county used a WW story as a pretext to oust her.

Mass market paperbacks are my favorite format. They're small, easy to carry, fit into pockets and bags, and just easier to use if I don't want to read the ebook. I don't love the larger formats and I do like a break from screens.
The mass market paperback, light in the hand and on the wallet, once filled airport bookstores and supermarket media aisles. You may never buy a new one again.

Can't say it enough, if you are going to build ANYTHING, you are going to be criticized much more than you will be praised. Do not be deterred. Build what you want to exist. Find your people and seek their counsel. Keep it moving.

Letting illness run rampant in prisons is just one kind of genocide.
