one should not laugh at one's own jokes, but...

“As I am not your ‘Mr.’ Miss Tu-Pa-Ka, but I shall forgive your informality if you shall forgive mine. I am more correctly Lord West of Cheltenham, but I prefer the affixation ‘Mr’, as otherwise one does rather sound like directions to Wales.”

In the last two days I have stumbled over a way to fix a narrative issue I have had for five years.
occasionally these things take time to come together.

I guess i am writing the novel I have been avoiding most again now :)

The new cover for the paperback versions of Maybe might be slightly brighter than the old one...

New concept cover for the anthology I am working on
that graffiti took ages to line up on the columns
And do not ask how long it took to get the inverted elder sign lined up on Medusa sisters right boob

(its been a slow morning in the office)

I just spent ten minutes carefully positioning an inverted semi transparent elder sign tattoo on the right boob of medusa's sister

I may be over doing this cover a tad ...

currently inscribing arcane graffiti on the columns of an ancient temple in Canva.
Small, near pointless, details. which no one will probably even notice
on a book cover that may or may not get used

Things I have learned today
Words Txt to speech feature can not determine the difference between lead and lead

ie. lead the metal , and lead as in he lead him to the river bank

in following my own advice, I am currently getting word to read back to me 'Auguries for Euryale'
one notes two things
1/ this is a very good way to proof read as you can hear mistakes your eyes would miss and fix them
2/ a computer can not read with passion and decrement

Editing is the art of taking your words and leering at them until they make better words

This may not be how everyone edits

In book news today
I have finally fixed the issue with the Passing Place HB cover and rewritten the blurb and added the Steampowered Books logo to the back cover
This ends the book news for the day

I am currently reading
@bensawyerwriter.bsky.social
latest Holly Trinity novel...

At one point it is pointed out that Holly Trinity is "not the queen of all lesbians," because, "that's Sandi Toksvig."

I may have had to put down the book at that point and compose myself

The pretty thing has arrived (with the new brighter HB cover and more concise blurb ) and the new publishers logo
I am far too easily pleased by pretty things

Its not the longest book I have ever written (just 10 short stories across 160 pages), but it is the prettiest
(also available on kindle and in paperback, but seriously its is so pretty in hardback)

For reasons, I have changed the cover of Maybe
The reasons include @katebaucherel.bsky.social ,a small avian creature traveling the universe on its gap year, and black table cloths
This is by way of an experiment
(also I did another thing with Maybe, but not mention that yet)

Finally got around to making a logo for Steampowered Books (my personal imprint/publishing house)

Of course this will mean I need to go through all the Steampowered books titles and add the logo to the back covers and the title page, so all I have done is create work for myself

why did I do this?

A reminder of the rules of writing

1. Avoid Alliteration. Always.
2. Prepositions are not words to end sentences with.
3. Avoid cliches like the plague. They’re old hat.
4. Comparisons are as bad as cliches.
5. Be more or less specific.
6. Writers should never generalise.
Seven. Be consistent.
