One of the Warhammer 40k background conceits that seems to trouble people parsing the most is the idea that advanced tech became standardized and ubiquitous, and then people forgot how it worked and now rely on folklore, mysticism and blind faith to keep it going.

I worked (albeit distantly) with Itagaki san on Devil's Third. He was 100% his public persona professionally; passionate, enigmatic, abrasive and hilarious. His English turn of phrase was singular and wonderful. As he signed off back then:

I am really suspicious of anyone who says variations of "(music genre) is mostly rubbish these days" - and doubly so when the genre is pop.
Sure, some new music is bad, and some old music is better than it, but the level of unprovable assumption in these kinds of statements says something. IMHO.
