Without Capitalism, I think society would be okay. People would spend a week indoors recovering... and then get on with the rest of their lives. Because there is so much to do, that people want to do, without need for money or reward, but simply for the act of doing it, and experience worth living.

6) Art is, in the end, a way of taking a feeling out of my head and trying to jam it into yours from across space and time. There may be some tasty junk food made by AI eventually, but without intention, our appetites to make will be unmet, and we will eventually move on. 6/6

4) Ages ago I noted there's just a vast gap in experience, in language, in the very ideas between the very rich, the techbros, and the rest of us, as deep as, say, THE ARRIVAL aliens. We do not use words with the same meaning. Don't even have the same value in and from the human experience

I said it before, will say it again -- generative AI fetishizes "ideas" while sneering at effort, execution, and education. That, despite Gen-AI being built on and out of other people's effort, execution and education.
A.I. and the Fetishization Of Ideas
In writing and in dispensing my (very dubious, probably shady) writing advice, I am often keen to note that ideas are bullshit. Most writers treat them like precious gems when really, ideas are lik…

My new policy of complimenting everyone’s nails—because it’s a thing they actively choose to do & feel good about and I think that deserves a nod—is going outstandingly well people are always excited to talk about their nails. This article was just lying to you. California builds 25,000 ADUs per year because of state preemption. There are tens of thousands of homes built with state ministerial streamlining. There are now *hundreds of thousands* of homes that would not otherwise exist because of state preemption.
Statewide zoning reform isn’t producing the wins everyone expected. For example, state law can declare that small backyard cottages are legal. But unless cities can review them, permit them, and builders can finance them, legalization will remain largely symbolic.

Every facet of generative AI has made my professional life worse, without question, but THIS specific aspect has been driving me NUTS.

Clients, who have made me toil for weeks over indescribably small details, are now approving & producing in-house commercial artwork that looks like a fever dream.
I feel the clients now using GenAI to do stuff and going "good enough" when they used to nitpick at every last detail is due to them finding out all those nit picky changes take time and work they cant be bothered to put in.

it’s just remarkable how thoroughly the media has normalized all of this; how clearly the media will normalize absolutely anything provided it endures longer than a handful of news cycles.
This is just how we do mergers now.
