Orioles, etc.
Dylan Cease? Yeah, cool. Anyway, back to the mid-off between Ryan Mountcastle and Coby Mayo

Don't worry. I'm sure the Orioles "had interest" and were "close" to signing Cease

I still wonder what the O's could've brought in for Mayo/others during the 2024 trade deadline. You can't (shouldn't) go into next season with Mayo and Mountcastle on the roster again. Mountcastle just isn't that good and that isn't anything new

For what it’s worth, the Angels would have access to medical records, etc. Grayson Rodriguez just said he didn’t go through a pre-trade physical. That’s not unusual when trading

The Orioles have acquired minor league INF Payton Eeles from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for C Alex Jackson. Jackson was arbitration eligible

The Orioles' 40-man roster currently has 39 players.

This is interesting, but I'm not buying it at all. Also, the idea that the Orioles could sign Tucker AND try to upgrade in CF over Cowser seems far-fetched www.nytimes.com/athletic/682...

Mike Elias might be the most hyperrational executive in MLB history when it comes to pitching—for better and for worse. He’s been in charge of the Orioles for seven full years now and he’s never: 1) signed a pitcher to a guaranteed multi-year contract; or 2) drafted a pitcher with a top-50 pick.

Initial thoughts on the Grayson deal: woof

Orioles have 24 hours to respond (get ready for some waiver claims)

i want to think and hope that the Orioles will do all of these things (and they should), but they probably won't

I'm not falling for it, Mike. I'll believe it when I see it
Are Orioles willing to sign a free agent with qualifying offer attached and lose Draft pick?

Mike Elias: "I think we are, yeah. ... We will absolutely be in the free-agent market for qualified free agents this winter. So we'll fully prepared to sacrifice the Draft pick."

Included: "[Elias has] a new assistant GM, with the Orioles promoting Brendan Fournie from senior director of baseball strategy and operations, per sources."

In San Francisco, Dustin Lind worked with Donnie Ecker. In Philadelphia, he worked with Kevin Long. Now Lind is leading his own hitting department.

Orioles hiring Phillies assistant Dustin Lind as hitting coach
Lind has history with Albernaz. They worked together with the San Francisco Giants, when Lind was their director of hitting and an assistant hitting coach.

Orioles' Craig Albernaz: "We have to be a diverse offense. We have to do the little things right. When guys are struggling or going through a little rut, you have to find a way to keep the line moving and be productive for your team. ... That’s something we’re going to preach."

An interesting option to pursue for the Orioles, who hopefully don't have another train-wreck of an offseason
Breaking: Padres All-Star closer Robert Suarez, who led the NL with 40 saves, has opted out. Had $16M over 2 years to go. Now a free agent.

The #Orioles were 1 out away from being no-hit by Dodgers RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto ... and then, Jackson Holliday hit a home run. His team-high 17th of the season.

The O's will not be no-hit tonight.
