Starting a day job again in the new year. I've always been a notetaker because my memory is shit. Debating between Circa/Arc/TUL notebook + nice pen, and a Supernote Nomad (one is clearly more expensive than the other).

I use obsidian for long term thinking, but for work notes?

I have a small holding company with my partner (mostly to consolidate film investments), but I'm not going to pay for quickbooks for such a low transaction company. So, I'm using plaintextaccounting.org with ledger-cli and git.

I've been pretty laissez faire with my homelab setup (secrets in plain text, etc), but now that I'm adding a second server to it, I want to start doing things right. That means migrating to komo.do and sops+age encryption for all of my secrets.

An important lesson when producing a film: make sure everyone on your team knows that a film is still a business, and general business procedures still matter. A general ledger still matters. Receipts and expense reports still matter.

My life has become nothing but spreadsheets… how did I become CFO of two different companies in one week?

Why I cancelled my Spotify account earlier this year. I regret ever even having an account.
Spotify has laid off thousands in recent years, while reportedly paying artists $0.003 per stream.

Spotify profits rose 28% in Q3. Its CEO is worth $9.8 billion. It's making money off ICE recruitment ads.

Don't you think it's time put a wrap on corporate greed and exploitation?

I’ve built and rebuilt the core of the game im working on in 2 different engines so far. Considering trying it in unity, but so far bevy seems to be winning in the direction I want to go. I need to try it on-device before I decide to move forward with it.

Salesforce bought informatica. I wonder if they are going to fuck it up the way they fucked up Tableau…. My gut says yes.

I watched the new "The Running Man" today. It was alright. I would say not Edger Wright's strongest film, but a solid film which captured the dystopian future (current?) in a gritty and believable way while still keeping the over-the-top camp of the original.

I'm Thomas Chatterton Williams, and as the reality of our entire political and cultural elite's deep enmeshment with pedophilia and sex trafficking goes from obvious to undeniable, I will be writing about how it's bad to have principles.

I've been reading Ideaflow ( https://amzn.to/4oBF1Tn ) all about creativity in business, and added my distillation of the book into my notes garden https://garden.graysonarts.com/0-inbox/ideaflow/

I'd love to know, what are your idea generation habits?

It’s a huge mistake, a strategic error & will be disastrous for the DEMS in the mid-terms if they cave on the ACA.
If I were @schumer.senate.gov, I would not agree to help Republicans fund this regime on the "promise" of an ACA vote at a later date. It didn't work the last time when they promised to fund DC. It won't work this time either. The House won't touch it.
