I’m old enough to remember when Dept of Homeland Security & ICE didn’t exist. They were created after 9/11. Before, it was CBP & INS. ICE is now INS. INS handled customs, trade compliance, and other stuff like drug smuggling. They were never meant to be snatching anyone or playing Gestapo.
There's hardly a meaningful distinction between ICE and the Gestapo at this point and we might as well confront that.
