Angus king might be more mentally challenged than Tommy Tuberville which is quite the feat

Yup! The fundamental problem with the “keeping fighting” group is that the Dems folding doesn’t fundamentally change the dynamics at play. Which pisses them off more cause they cant claim there is a strategy to continue fighting
I dont think Trump is gonna get more popular anytime time soon, guys
Trump trade war costs US Italian pasta: “Exporters say import and antidumping duties totaling 107% on their pasta brands will make doing business in America too costly and are preparing to pull out of U.S. stores as soon as January.” Via WSJ

From what I’m reading basically the Dems were gonna either have to fold or let the GOP gut the filibuster.

Dems got tired of the pain and folded.

The problem is the GOP doesn’t give a shit about reelection so they were fine with the pain.
November 10, 2025 at 2:09 PM
I saw a take that Dems are gonna lose enthusiasm now.

I don’t know if I agree. If people are mad enough to post on here then they are engaged. Normie voters aren’t going to not show up cause Dems caved.

This has more chance to effect primaries than the general election
November 10, 2025 at 1:55 PM
This is the real issue Dems have. There is a whole large group who want to fight driven by the base while there is another group raised in 90’s/2000’s style Dems should cave mentality.

I don’t think overall it matters much but the old school Dems are gonna have a harder time come primary season
This is not what they actually say. This is what they used to say, in the long ago before times when Shaheen learned to do politics. There is no kumbaya median voter anymore. The question you get knocking doors is not "why can't you all just work together?" it's "why didn't / will you fight harder?
Shaheen: "When I talk to my constituents in New Hampshire, you know what they say to me? They say, 'Why can't you all just work together to address the problems that are facing this country?'"
November 10, 2025 at 1:34 PM
I will say outside of the dem base and politicos I don’t think it will matter to the normies about the government being back open. They are surprisingly ignorant of even basic political stuff so the idea that they will reward republicans is probably GOP fan fiction
November 10, 2025 at 1:31 PM
lol she snitched on Schumer.
KILMEADE: Schumer says he's voting no. Did you do this outside leadership?

SHAHEEN: No. We kept leadership informed throughout.
November 10, 2025 at 1:30 PM
While I agree Dems don’t really fear their base, the senators who caved are from the retiring or dgaf part of the senate caucus. Only Kaine and Fetterman are likely to face a primary challenge for their actions.
Dem pols really have 0 fear of their base and that kinda has to change.
November 10, 2025 at 12:34 PM
This is true. I think too many people see the Dems cave as “all GOP problems go away” which isn’t true.

Voters last week said economy and Trump were the main reasons they voted. Neither of those things are magically fixed
Trump and Republicans raised ACA health care premiums. They were unwilling to compromise despite a historically long shutdown and dismal public approval. Holding a vote after premiums go up, and enforcing the vote with another shutdown threat can force Republicans to own the issue
November 10, 2025 at 12:25 PM
This is the real problem. Dems being rolled because they can’t stomach letting voters get what they voted for.

Voters aren’t gonna turn from republicans if they think republicans are the ones who give them everything good.
Not that he didn’t already know, but now Trump knows for sure he can roll the Dems every time and there’s no need to negotiate for anything
November 10, 2025 at 12:04 PM
The problem for dems going into 2026: even if they were doing everything right, a few senate dems have cursed a bunch of them to primaries.

When my 65 year old mother calls me to complain about dems then it’s bad.

I feel bad for the ones that did all the right things.
the Democrats have lost MattY, Chait, even fucking Chris Cilizza on this cave

as far as I can tell the entire list of people in or around Democratic politics who think this vote was a good idea consists of the people who took the vote and whoever else in the caucus silently supported them
"Democrats could have held the line on the shutdown, and spent weeks watching Trump’s approval ratings fall," writes @jonathanbchait.bsky.social
Instead, he argues, they're making a mistake by giving in:

Yeah I mean I know not all Dems voted yes but when my mom called me to complain about the Dems you know it’s bad.

A good amount of Dems are doing all the right things but will still be vulnerable to primary because their colleagues are cowards.

Oh well. Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory
November 10, 2025 at 1:53 AM
What’s funny about this article is that they blame the messaging but the #2 issue people voted on was anger at Trump.

How is Alaska doing? Don’t they heavily rely on the fed government?

Its amazing how easily duped political reporters are by Republicans. Satisfied with the equivalent of getting keys jingled in front of them.
Someday maybe the press will note the difference between "taking" questions and "answering" them.

I keep seeing stuff like “younger generations sour on capitalism due to not being able to afford housing”

People don’t really realize how much capitalism got a boost due to the Cold War.

Pretty much every negative aspect was overlooked because how how terrible communist governments were.
November 9, 2025 at 3:09 PM
I am still shocked by the businesses and media just absolutely rolling over for Trump.

He might be in the mid 30’s approval by year end
November 9, 2025 at 2:46 PM
So while I don’t think Latinos and young men are back in the dem column I also think the GOP really made a bad trade getting a group of voters who only show up if Joe Rogan tells them to
I do think overall the GOP is doing better with minority voters BUT I also think that those voters are really really flakey and won’t show up all the time.

Basically a Dem problem transferred to the GOP.

Biden’s problem was that he was at war with the media, the GOP, and the leftists at the same time.

Trumps only at war with the Dems right now while both leftists and the media cheer him on.
November 9, 2025 at 2:14 PM
I don’t think the president has much control of the economy. Biden got way too much flack for it.

That said trumps tariffs are literally the reason why everything one turn on him.
It’s also the reason why businesses started doing lay offs.
November 9, 2025 at 12:57 PM
This is correct. The GOP is just unwilling to admit they aren’t on a good path and adjust.

Voters want to vote GOP but the GOP is determined to not give them any reason to.
Looking at the GOP acting electorally suicidally and saying “they’re not acting like they’re planning on having elections” is like watching someone driving 90mph at a brick wall and being like “wow they must have figured out a way for this not to kill them.”
November 9, 2025 at 12:44 PM
Remember when the GOP was making fun of all the old people at the No Kings rally…

Well Dems won the 65+ crew this last week. Probably for the first time in forever
November 9, 2025 at 11:50 AM
I mean if Chris Coons is saying this then Dems aren’t about to back down on the shut down.
Chris Coons: "He's not listening to concerns about lowering costs. Instead he's worried about decorating his new Marie Antoinette ballroom or engaging in trying to figure out how to get his name on more statues and stadiums, or he's sitting across the table in the Oval Office with authoritarians."
November 9, 2025 at 11:21 AM
While I’m happy Mamdani won, leftists can’t stop saying “he’s an example to the dems on how to run a race” or dumb stuff like that.

Dems won up and down and all over the place on Tuesday and Mamdani’s wasn’t even in the top 10 most impressive.
