If I ever win the lottery, I'm gonna fully fund SO MANY aid requests on here.

As it is, I'm unemployed and going back to school full time for a career that is absolutely not gonna make me wealthy, so all of you whose content i enjoy… I'm sorry I can't do more.

I'm curious how much Universal Pictures paid Google to include ads for 'Wicked: For Good' to this month's Pixel Drop.

They aren't aesthetically terrible, but it's still in poor taste to pass off advertising as a "feature" being added to a phone I've already paid for.

The fact that this isn't the biggest story today is terrifying.
Global carbon emissions from fossil fuels are projected to rise to an all-time high this year, according to a report.

At this rate, it will take the world four years to pass the threshold experts agree would constitute catastrophic warming, the authors said.
Despite surging renewables, fossil fuel emissions will hit record this year
Emission-rate increases will accelerate in the U.S. and E.U. but will slow in China and India, according to a report published Wednesday.

AOC: "It is unconscionable that what we are debating right now is legislation that will give 8 senators over $1 million a piece & we're robbing people of their food assistance & healthcare to pay for it. How can we vote to enrich ourselves by stealing from the American people?"

Idiom Origin

“pull yourself up by your bootstraps”

This was originally *sarcasm* & meant to convey that the act was impossible.

A boot strap is a loop used to help put your boot on.

This 1921 cartoon from the “Nonpartisan Leader” showcases that you can’t pull upward on your boots to levitate.

So there's another new vinyl format, a 4" disc called "Tiny Vinyl", which for now is exclusive (at least in the US) to Target stores. As opposed to the 3" records introduced by Crosley (?), these don't require specialized hardware to play.

They're cute, they're interesting, but…

It's the most impressive restoration/rebuild of a classic computer I can ever remember having seen, courtesy of @polymatt.bsky.social.

When I saw @lgr-yt.bsky.social's original video for this machine, it felt heartbreaking. Maybe it's "just" a computer, but there aren't many of these models left.

One reason I love listening to X-Ray Spex is because I believe punk rock and saxophones belong together.

Since we're baseball's off-season and I've already seen this issue come up in articles and comments regarding roster movement, I'd like to make an important announcement:

"RESIGN" and "RE-SIGN" are totally different things. Please do not use one when you mean the other.

Thank you.

In the future, I have no doubt that legal historians will judge the Roberts court — this particular incarnation of it — as the most spineless Supreme Court ever.

Dear State of Florida:

Wanna prevent taxpayer money from funding Islamic schools? Stop funding Christian schools. Easy.

Public funds should serve public means, not sectarian ones. Let the churches fund their own schools.

Don't get mad when OTHER religious groups use the programs YOU set up.
Florida Republicans are furious that Muslims are using a voucher program meant to boost Christianity
The same lawmakers who voted to send taxpayer funds to private Christian schools are panicking now that Muslim schools are participating in the program

Libraries matter. Access matters.

After years of legal battles, the Internet Archive is still here—and still fighting for a world where everyone can read, learn, and remember.

Update: I've been doing observations at a local middle school for one of my classes. Students there are also wearing them.

Is this how some of my high school teachers felt when I wore my The Doors shirt? (The only radio stations in town I liked were NPR and classic rock, so I heard them a lot.)
Continued Observations at [Enormous Public State] University:

I've seen at least a dozen other students wearing Nirvana shirts just today.

Considering most of them were likely born around/after 2000, I wonder how much this is influence by parents, marketing, finding the band organically-ish, etc.

Why do you need organic/gluten free, you can’ afford that!

I am sick of it. You don’t know what people should/need to eat
"They're buying seafood with food stamps" Sorry you have never read a sale paper or been in an Aldi. Or bought a meat pack from the discount butcher shop. Not to mention gifts, special occasions, or repayment from favors owed. People in low income communities work. Hence the word income
