We’ve covered lots of losing local teams on the back page of this paper.

But none with a record as bad as the Chicago DOJ during Operation Midway Blitz:

0 convictions

11 charges dropped

3 no-billed cases

1 jury acquittal

I really am not That Guy, honest, but this protest is deliberate civil disobedience, no? blocking access to the airport? so most likely not a first amendment thing
another day, another mass violation of Americans' First Amendment right to assembly

I mean this is not a journalism show, but the french military is probably the best-equipped and most experienced in europe, they have a robust domestic defense industry (dassault, airbus, knds, etc) and of course

nuclear weapons
Rep. Greg Steube: "You see Macron and the French sending troops to Greenland. I would love to see the US military up against French troops in Greenland, because it would not last very long. It would be a very small skirmish ... we don't care about what Macron and the French want."

it is (sigh) worth noting that the u.s. did invoke article 5 after 9/11, and its nato allies stepped up and died in the middle east

nato would I'm pretty sure reject the idea that u.s. borders are a collective defense situation. they aren't even a u.s. defense situation
President Donald Trump openly mused about invoking NATO’s collective defense obligation to place allied troops along the US-Mexico border, a suggestion that, even if not meant seriously, represents another volley of rhetoric aimed squarely at European allies.

yeah, look... this all seems self-evident to me, but you can't simultaneously say "we are the bad guys and only the bad guys" and also say we should fight the bad guys

either america has good stuff worth fighting for or it doesn't. if you think it doesn't then there's nothing to oppose, is there
You can point out the flaws while also having the dream and aspirations still be a thing. Pointing out that we aren’t living up to them is good, but saying they have no meaning whatsoever is just plain insulting to a lot of the dead who fought and died for them. Like MOST of Arlington Cemetery.
I very much disagree with @whstancil.bsky.social on this - how are you going to oppose ICE and the Trump administration if you don't understand that this *is* indeed who you are as a nation and that what we're seeing today is the culmination of a long history of American violence? 1/

And I remember how the airports were plastered in “Britain: open for business!” posters right after Brexit.
