With SNAP/EBT cuts looming I highly recommend downloading this app! Basically restaurants and other food businesses will have available bags of random food they don’t wanna waste for ppl to buy for hella cheap! This has saved me sooooo many times when I only have $5 and need some food.
How can someone in the UK who isn't an American citizen and isn't a billionaire do anything to prevent what even US voters, senators and representatives can't/won't?
What did I get wrong?
The elites have benefited from liberal democracy, and now they're seeing it fail so many, they'd rather return to feudalism than pay a bit more tax.
We'd love to help, I'm sure. But you can't be for the right of nations to determine their own fates, and also be pro foreign intervention in political choices.
The CIA doing that is partly why people don't trust institutions.
It's not just Trump. Countless US politicians, oligarchs and voters had MULTIPLE chances to stop this. We have to conclude that enough US citizens genuinely want this. And do whatever we can to stop the madness from landing on our shores.
Outside the USA this is obvious. There's not a lot any of us can do about it. Most leaders are too scared that the Eye of Sauron might be cast their way to do anything but charm your mad king when national interests are affected.
Because the SCOTUS decided that he can do anything to anyone, say or not say anything, and will not be accountable to anyone in the USA.
Watching debates between fundamentalists and atheists makes it very obvious that the inability to argue from facts and evidence, forcing arguments that are riddled with logical fallacies, must be teeth-grittingly frustrating.
Burning down the evidence structure would seem a dream solution.
The evil genius of Trump is to have realised that there were enough people who loathe and despise what America is to tear it down and not enough people willing to stop him.
It's always been a theoretical possibility, he and his allies have decided to test it.
While denying it's happening.

I always wonder how folks like Krauss and Dawkins fail to feel any shame for betraying science and the academic enterprise more generally. Nate is probably right that it's just the huckster's temptation, only now selling resentment instead of snake oil.

All week the pro-Israel and pro-Trump supporters screamed at us, in unison: why aren’t you celebrating the ceasefire??

Because we knew it wouldn’t last. But even I didn’t think it’d be over in less than a week. What a complete & utter humiliation for Trump, thanks to Netanyahu.
Fantastic investigative journalism from @thenerve.news
NEW: Police knew a Kremlin spy ring recruited former leader of Reform Wales at least 3 years ago.

So why was Nathan Gill not charged till Feb this year?

Pls read part 2 of @thenerve.news special investigation into Nathan Gill. And please share!

It’s always worth remembering that this utterly horrific wave of mass death inflicted on some of the poorest people in the world was for literally nothing. It hasn’t even been for some monstrously cynical benefit to someone, it hasn’t saved money. It is just some of the purest nihilism imaginable
Even in this place, I feel the sheer scale of foreign aid being demolished isn't fully appreciated. As it stands, it is perhaps *the* most catastrophic change to preventable deaths in our lifetimes, and the salience - even in presumably friendly spaces - is basically zero

Starving children screaming for food as US aid cuts unleash devastation and death across Myanmar
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has repeatedly said “no one has died" because of his government’s decision to gut its foreign aid program.

Unless the corporate owners deliberately intend to reduce the quality of political coverage, eventually aligning RS more with Trump apologist print media like NYT and WaPo.

You would not fire these people—including the staff of the hugely, HUGELY important 'Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report'—if you cared at all about public health, if you wanted people to live.

And you would not let your thuggish henchmen fire people like this if you were a responsible president.
BREAKING: Friday night massacre underway at CDC. Doznes of "disease detectives," high-level scientists, entire Washington staff and editors of the MMWR (Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report) have all been RIFed and received the following notice:

Never forget or forgive that Trump, Rubio, & Musk *chose* to inflict this monumental level of death and suffering on the poorest & most vulnerable people.

I met her years ago at the Kid's Lit Quiz in Oxford, on the author team. Her first book had just come out, she's super smart and charming, a high powered Oxford academic. Don't know Katherine's views on LGBTQ but it'd be considered very gauche (at least!) in Oxford Uni to be openly anti trans.
The Spectator is going to love this. They won't have to bother with all that coverage of opera, theatre, museums, art and literature.
Then again that was the old Spectator, probably
It's a stumbling block for me whenever I think about submitting something rather than continuing to self pub.

Can you imagine if Russia attacked and seized a UK vessel in international waters & kidnapped the people on board, including UK citizens, and the only response from the UK govt was to say that's "a matter for the Russian govt".

No, me neither.

Not a single Greta hater could do what she has done, face what she's faced, bear abuse and humiliation at the hands of the most psychotic and genocidal army. They haven't an ounce of her bravery and that's what drives them crazy. Free Greta, free Palestine🇵🇸

Full solidarity with the flotilla, which represents the very best of humanity.

And eternal shame to the European states who refused to protect it from Israeli assault and establish a corridor for aid to Gaza.
It might be aimed at Gen X men longing for all that stuff again, of course. But more likely gen Z who think the world of Stranger Things would be a neato place to live.
Yeahhh all Gen X women are watching thinking, ah, the 80s, routine sexual harassment and male bosses patronising you stealing your ideas at work and having to just grin through it, let's have that again.
