nwlondontimemachineThe 1968 Peter Ustinov film, 'Hot Millions' featured a number of NW London locations, most notably Burnt Oak as well as Edgware.Looking at the following then and now images, its clear to see that although the shops have changed hands many times since and the vehicles on the road are from the past, the built environment has altered very little. Burnt Oak and Edgware featured quite regularly in film and TV shows in the 1950s and 1960s, and that was due to its proximity to the studios at nearby Borehamwood and Elstree. The 'anytown' feel of the locations were ideal. On this occasion 'Hot Millions' was made by MGM at Borehamwood. That studio closed in 1970.1-3 Peter Ustinov's character, 'Pendleton' on Watling Avenue, Burnt Oak.4. The same location in the present day5&6. Watling Park7&8 Outside Burnt Oak Underground station.9. The exterior of Burnt Oak Underground station in the present.10&11. Deans Lane, Edgware. The building at the far end is the The Green Man, it is now a Harvester restaurant, and has been renamed as The Jolly Badger.12. Deans Lane in the present.13&14. Hale Lane. 15.
