nwlondontimemachineThe 1968 Peter Ustinov film, 'Hot Millions' featured a number of NW London locations, most notably Burnt Oak as well as Edgware.Looking at the following then and now images, its clear to see that although the shops have changed hands many times since and the vehicles on the road are from the past, the built environment has altered very little. Burnt Oak and Edgware featured quite regularly in film and TV shows in the 1950s and 1960s, and that was due to its proximity to the studios at nearby Borehamwood and Elstree. The 'anytown' feel of the locations were ideal. On this occasion 'Hot Millions' was made by MGM at Borehamwood. A post from my other account.
Spencer House, Vale of Health, Hampstead (1964).

On first view a fairly unremarkable building, but the history of the site is quite interesting. Its named after the artist Sir Stanley Spencer, who used a studio in the hotel that stood on the site until it was demolished in 1962....

"The finest mattress made" : c.1930 publicity brochure from the bedmaking company whose works were then situated at the still eponymously named junction of the Edgware Road, North Circular and M1 in north London. Staples, formed in 1895, had links to the Heal's furnishings family.

The 1960s Kilburn Square development is being redeveloped.
I took these yesterday. It looks like the original structure is being retained and then expanded. The new development is called The Terrace.
