Whole house is ill & in different rooms. I'm on the recovery in kitchen (ninja style claiming of that sofa/tv/access to snacks). Andooh is in the office in the early stages & has made a gross error with that choice. The mid-stage Boy is in the 'library' (it has a few books) with PS5, sofa & dog.Nice

I write a newspaper column about Scottish history, historians and heritage.

I’m keen to feature more Early Career Researchers. Their work might not otherwise be publicised to a wide audience. Do you know anyone who might like to be in the column?

Got home to a massive fortnum and mason hamper delivery. Groaned as I have never been allowed to accept due to bribery thresholds then remembered I'm now a down on my arse PhD candidate and it's all mine. ALL MINE. I hate I'm so excited. I'm ridiculously excited. Hooray.

Some corporate archivists are amazing arent they. "I have the files but I dont see X as being the same issue as you do, but you know, maybe, as there was certainly Y going on...." A very gentle way to say FIND Y. Y IS THERE. I WILL PUT A FILE OF Y NEAR YOU. ASK ABOUT Y. IT IS ALL ABOUT Y.

Really excited to have a lot of talks/presentations coming up in 2026 as the 40th Anniversary of the Wapping Print Dispute. I'm presenting on the often unreported impact on the residents of the year long (often violent) dispute in which the police secured & barricaded the area.

I asked this many moons ago on the other site, but does anyone know of any scholarly work whatsoever on ‘nationality branches’ within police forces in the UK?

Trying to rehearse timings on a presentation & the Ai coach keeps telling me off for using profanities when I stumble or want to change things. This thing must have a scottish model as my swearing was verging on niche and it still caught it. Ai -Good for catching swearing, shite for everything else

Watched civilisations with Jn and thought it was dire, but now the TV has started the old Timewatch. Night and day.

Sitting in an institution Club, sinking into a warm leather sofa, coal fire gently warming behind me, peaceful but for the russling of newspapers and hushed talk, christmas tree and decorations tastefully twinkling. I know none of this is PC but it is lovely. I do have an urge to shout BOGEYS though

reached that age when other half requested a 'really nice bone china mug for my tea' for his birthday and I was utterly on board with it instead of taking the piss. I got 4. Sipping our Twinnings like little princelings here.

'Survival capitalism' and the Big Bang: culture, contingency and capital in the making of the 1980s financial revolution by Emma Barrett is absolutely brilliant. I read it a bit last year, but reading it properly now I have more context and it is so, so good on so many levels

Have you, a family member or friend moved from council housing to renting privately?

I’m a PhD researcher looking into what drives these moves, how it impacts tenants' lives and their views of the council housing tenure.

First morning back in the pool. Royally lost my shit at the misogynistic crap from Middle Aged Man Swimming Down the Middle Slowly. Not the way to start a Monday after a holiday. I wonder how many men stop women participating in sport in various everyday unchallenged agressions? Lots I would think.
